I don't think it's really fair to say his closet door 'slammed shut' the moment he signed up for Idol. I mean, it's still pretty early to tell. He's obviously a homo, and I wouldn't exactly say his performances are unflamboyant, even if he's not in drag and sparkly knee boots. I WILL be disappointed if he chooses to pretend to be straight though, especially in light of all the evidence to the contrary. We'll see, I guess.
