This was not the first time Chris Brown beat Rihanna. It probably started with some verbal abuse and then moved up to a slap. Once a man has crossed that line with a woman, he will always hit her. And no a man doesn't always have to be provoked. My cousin's husband hit her only twice, she left after that, but both times, she was walking away from an argument. You can't win with an abusive man. You can walk on eggshells but anything is likely to set him off--a bad day at the office, a hangnail, a bad golf game--you just never know because a man like that views a woman as a punching bag. He does not solve conflicts by rational means.

I can't imagine any Hollywood star EVER agreeing to be photographed for domestic violence injuries, knowing that it will be splashed all over the newspapers and blogs, forever. Talk about a chilling effect on prosecution of crimes.

they will pursue prosecution on this case...no law enforcement official or district attorney wants to look soft on domestic violence come re-election time...for that matter, neither does a sitting judge...i don't know if he'll do any time, but he'll walk out with some type of punishment...don't mistake Rhiana's peoples' silence for apathy...i'm still sure jay-z and a few HW insiders have a direct line to the sheriff's office, DA, and other elected officials...i imagine these folks have given donations to many election campaigns...favors are not forgotten in the political world...sometimes it's not what you know, it's who you know...hip hop moguls have alot more power within the system now due to their public influence and income...they know the system from the inside...if they want to, they can pull the right strings to get the deal done

Rihanna is a very famous lady and her handlers will tell her this kind of publicity is no good for her image. My bet is Brown will get indicted but convicted on a much lesser charge because Rihanna will want it out of the public eye as fast as possible. If she does go back to him, though, that's sad. When a man hits a woman for the very first time and her response is, "If you ever do that again..........." she just set the tone. He now knows she's staying and that gives him the license to do it again and again. She's lucky in that she has friends, family and money. Most abused women have none of those things and discover they can't leave their abuser.

Yeah that is pretty damn awful, but he won't go to jail for it - if they send him to jail, they have to send all those other millions that beat their wives up.

Do you know how many women are victims of domestic violence everyday, get beaten the shit out of, abused etc and it never makes the news and no one goes to jail? Not to downplay Rihanna's plight but let's not hold a vigil in her honor like she was the only beaten woman ever. I know it is made into this huge deal cause she is a star but I wish people made a big deal about when a few weeks ago a man killed himself, his wife and 5 children cause their place of employment, a hospital in LA, fired them both after they had complained about some work-place issue. Damn. He almost beat her to a bloody pulp and, like some victim, she is supposedly having second thoughts about working with the police.

Well, I don't really know what to say. I have mixed thoughts about whether or not this should have been leaked. Honestly, what is scary to me is that this pic was taken right after she was beaten up. I can only imagine what she looked like in the days following. The true horror of something like this doesn't show up for a few days.

I think the marks on her forehead are the worst. It looks like her head was banged hard against something that may have had an opening in the middle. That is why she has those simliar looking bruise lines on either side of her forehead.

Just disgraceful.

Honestly, I am glad this photo has come out. People have been talking about how 'there are two sides to every story' and 'maybe she provoked him' and yada yada yada. Fact is, this is what abuse looks like. Anyone who feels the urge to defend Chris Brown needs to take a good, long look at this picture; whatever your relationship issues are, there is no excuse for this.
