I live in Victoria, Australia, and have felt this disaster personally, having lost friends. So to come across this photo on TMZ's web site, was gut wrenching and it made me furious. But that being said, thank you for showing sensitivity to a photo and a situation, which had killed many people, and torn apart the lives of thousands. As a whole, I feel most of my fellow country men will agree. So thank you.

I have to second what jlo318 said in his/her post - the international community has been so generous in helping out here with this disaster - thanks, all!

I live in the hills of Adelaide in South Australia-in a high danger fire zone but we were EXTREMELY lucky to get through the terrible conditions without any major fires. But UNBELIEVEABLY some stupid a-hole went into the Belair National Park a stones throw from my back door and lit 2 grass fires ! The fires were contained incredibly quickly with no real destruction, but WTF ??? I truly believe some absolute sick pig wanted to try and replicate what has just happened in Victoria. South Australia is in just as much threat as Victoria as our weather conditions can be very similar most times, and we have been in severe drought for a long time now.
Re the koalas-with the extreme heat the poor little things have been coming into our back yards for water and shelter-when a koala drinks water you know it is in severe distress as they don't normally drink water-all their moisture comes from the gum leaves they eat.
It is just terrible what Australia is going through and I am just so touched by the international support. Thanks everyone !

MK, it's been fuckin awful! I was driving home tonite and all I could smell was burning wood - and the fucking sky is like smog, the smoke is that bad...and the moon the past few nites looks like Vadge's face - round and orange colored. Its been terrible here. Hope it never happens again (at least while I'm alive).

thanks heaps for posting this and getting awareness out there for what has happened, i am a volunteer in the red cross bushfire appeal call centre, in just 2 hours today i took $13000 worth of donations one lady even donated a house she was selling, the way the australian community has come together is amazing!

thanks for posting this. the response to the assorted charities and fundraising efforts has been amazing. i have had to stop watching/reading the news because i just cry. a lot of my US friends were worried for me but i'm nowhere near the fires. if bushfires made it to my place, there would be very little left of sydney. i cannot begin to imagine the terror that the people from that area have been through.

Thank you so much for drawing attention to this horrible thing that is happening in gorgeous Australia... it is breaking my heart to see so much devastation in my country, but it is so heartening to hear of so many donations being made by people who haven't been personally touched by this tragedy. I have donated and I hope that people continue to give and help these people that have lost everything, including loved ones.

Breaks my heart to see animals hurt. The bushfires are an absolute tragedy. I live in South Australia so we weren't affected by the latest fires. It's just very sad.

God bless that little koala and the firefighter. Seeing this has restored some of my faith in the human-race.

awwww...that picture reminded me of the photos of the horses abandoned down in the Quarter after Katrina. Despicable buggy owners didn't even bother to evacuate them and the animals were scrounging for food and fresh water on the only little tiny bit of high ground to be found near the Mississippi water front. I wanted to get my hands around the necks of those animal-abusers.

Anyway...hot fireman for hot slut. And sweet koala needs to come to America and live with MK.

That's awesome. To think, the worst of humanity started these fires, and yet, the best of humanity is doing all that it can to help.

That poor little koala broke my heart. The human loss has been so horrific I'd totally forgotten about all the innocent animals who were undoubtedly killed in this tragedy. It's terrible to think that these fires were set by some maniac arsonists. I hope at least some of THEM were burned alive. If not, I'd think it the height of justice if they get their brains blown out by angry survivors (although I think that would be too good for them).

Jesus H. Christ, between these horrible arsonists, that maniac Chris Brown AND the loony octuplet mom, my blood pressure is going through the roof. How can ALL these people be so AWFUL?

This also brought out the nice in me. When I saw this picture yesterday I teared up a bit. Poor little koala. It looks so exhausted and thankful. I want to go to Australia now just to save all the koala bears -- stupid fucking fires :(
