Socks Is On Death's Door!

17-year-old Socks the cat, the former head pussy of the White House, is laid up in bed with cancer and not doing too good. Socks is currently shacked up with Betty Currie, who used to be Bill Clinton's personal secretary, in Maryland. A family friend said Socks' days are numbered. The friend also said that the vet was willing to put Socks on feeding tubes, but the Currie family decided he was too old for that mess.

I actually wrote a letter to Socks when I was in high school. It was a poem. That fucking says a lot about me. Writing poems to cats when I'm in high school! I think I thought he could really read it.

I barely knew Bill Clinton's name, but I knew everything about Socks! And when Buddy came along, I was just as pissed off as Socks was. Replaced by a dog!

Oh, Socks! Smoke up a little cat nip and get comfortable. Soon you'll be making your way to the big White House in the sky where Buddy is patiently waiting to make your afterlife a living hell (in a loving way, of course)!

Then when you get to the part where the priest asks you confess your sins, you;re like like "Uhm. I got nothing. I'm 10 years-old."

Ha ha ha! Forever stalking birds and yumming up TUNA and the catnip. I like it.

... Moochie was a filthy Ho-Bag for the tuna. He would cut a bitch that came NEAR the bowl if there was tuna.

Daily Routine at Rainbow Bridge:

Morning
1. Crawl out of warm fluffy cloud
2. Catch small defenceless bird and eat head.
3. Give body to best friend.
4. Wash thyself and clean between toes and under nails (keepin it clean peoples!)
5. Nap in cloud again.

Afternoon:
1. Wake up and sniff breeze.
2. Go for a walk to check out what other cats are doing. Smooch or hiss and spit at cats as appropriate.
3. Beat up a dog or two.
4. Catch a few rays.
5. Get high on catnip. Oh yeah!
6. Go back to own cloud to bowl of delicious tuna.
7. Remember about humans down on earth and think, 'You guys should see me here living it up'
8. Nap

And so on...

I didn't realize adult cats would knead like that until my daughter got a kitten. It was weaned already and after about a week at our house started doing that to my daughter, me and my cat. I thought at the time it was psychological (she was an only kitten who had recently watched her mother be ruthlessly killed--yes, I honestly thought a cat could be damaged emotionally from this.) but my husband said some just do it all their lives and to get used to it.

Migraine Sally, Mr. GIG is inconsolable. Moochie was really HIS baby boy.

Moochie adored him. He would do that kneading thing to his night shirt, like he was nursing kitten.

It's funny how animals really bond with one hooman. *ha ha* I've been surfing Icanhazcheezburger incessantly.

It's a hard decision, though. Our vet was straight up about it. Which me and Mr. GIG appreciated. Don't sugar coat the truth.

Green Is Good, condolences. I can't even fathom having to make that decision, though I fear the day is coming with my 15 year old Persian. I just hope when it does I am unselfish enough to do what my mind knows is the right thing.

I know that sounds dumb but I need to think that right now.

That's a HARROWING story! I'm amazed she survived such a traumatic entrance into the world.

Good for you.

I found my beloved LucyCat in our driveway in Merced, California, 14 years ago she was born wild, her mother was killed, she was lying in our driveway with the umbilical cord still attached, she was one day old. I nursed her with an eyedropper with kitten formula, brought her to work with me for six weeks. She survived, and so did I. Now she is still a beautiful calico cat, a little fat, but a surviror. When she leaves me, I will go insane!

Poor Socks. He must have lived a great life and seen interesting things.

My feline son was supposed to fly to Dubai this week with my feline daughter to join us in our new home.

Two days ago he started throwing up and it turns out he has pancreatic failure. Every 24 hours is a blessing at this stage. He's stable but critical. He could go downhill at any minute and we will have to make the decision to euthenase him.

We can't have children and I cannot descrie what this feels like. He's 12 years old and has travelled the world with us. I just wanted a few more years with him and now it seems I might never see him again.

EDIT:
Submitted by Deb on Mon, 12/15/2008 - 2:57pm.

Moochie had cancer all through his body. It spread quick. Initially the vet thought it was pancreatic infection, but he didn;t respond to antibiotics. He was wasting away to skin and bone. The poor baby. He got so weak, we fed him like a kitten with a syringe and a high calorie liquid diet.

Bella's picture

My cat was also 17 when he died, he was a big healthy cat but all of a sudden in a matter of weeks he just withered away and we had to have him put down.

My aunt brought him as a kitten to our home when I was two years old and after a couple months my mom was seriously considering returning him (something that she would never do lightly) because my obsession with it was way over the top. My whole existence during that period revolved around the kitten and I wanted to be with it ALL the time, I wanted to eat next to it on the floor and I wanted to sleep with it in the catbed (there´s this really cute picture of me sleeping all curled up in the catbed holding the little kitty). But thankfully I snapped out of it so the cat got to stay.

Snowy- yes, British is a fun language. You get to call guys blokes and chaps and instead of taking a potty break, you go to the loo and you can be all cranky pants and no one will care because you are just being british.

It's been over 5 years since we had to put down Sierra, our golden...she absolutely LOVED the snow, every year as soon at it's start snowing, she'd be out in the yard romping and rolling around like a puppy, even at 14+ years old.

So every year when the 1st snow comes, we think of Sierra.
