It's always sad to lose a loved one but I think losing someone you love at the hands of violence is even more harsh. You wonder what he must have gone through the seconds before he died. It's one thing to realize you're going to die but to know when...that's just too much to think about.

I'm kind of a crime story whore, so I'll ask what some others have: What was Shaha's relationship with Mark's brother? I know he was a high end hairstylist. Being "royalty" and all, was she perhaps a client? I'm curious about their relationship and haven't read anything about it yet. Any clues are appreciated.

And yeah, this is very sad. My condolences.

Very sad when anyone dies, especially in this way and also sad that there are always the people left behind.... so yes, those are two reasons I feel sadness when I hear things like this story. As for the "in my prayers" things, maybe people don't know what else to say but they want to convey they care?

And this is sad- yeah he was a stranger but you just imagine losing your own family and how much that hurts. I feel like this with lots of horrible news stories out there... a huge reason I try to avoid them now. The world seems increasingly violent .

Dont know who the person was who was murdered, however it's sad to hear that someone lost his life.

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't being flip, I honestly know only one person that is known to physically pray (knees and all), and one couple that goes to church (merely because the husband likes the routine).

I don't think it's a matter of only being exposed to a small subset of the population, cause that just isn't the case.

Religion has never been a noticeable element in my life or that of friends, family or acquaintances.

I've never known any major life milestones being associated with religion either. Can't even remember the last time I heard of a child being baptized or whatever. Granted many people are married in churches, but I don't think that is so they can be blessed - isn't that why people write their own vows?

Since we're on the topic - the other thing that blows me away is the politicians in the states having to be religious! Wow. If any candidate did that here to the extent is it done there, they would NOT be viewed as a credible candidate (it's inappropriate to many to mention in that venue).

It's not "disrespectful" to ask a question. The Internet has turned us into faux-intimate observers of celebrities. We use their first names, like we actually know them - that's disrespectful. It's tacky. Have about all of those brutal murders in your respective cities?? Do you go posting your condolences for them on the local news site?? You shouldn't need to read about the relative of some sort of famous person to feel empathy or sympathy for all the violence being done against each other in this world. Open a newspaper and read about your neighbours.

Many people feel empathy or sympathy whether we know them or not because we understand what it's like to be in that position or can imagine ourselves in the same situation. It seems like a human reaction to me. Not sure why you are immune.

Hey Tits..The one with the close shaved hair is the hairdresser that was shot. The other is the actor brother. He might of been more well known by now if he hadn't been sidelined by a brain tumor and surgery a number of years ago. Had to stop working. Passed up a lot of parts that got other actors press.

Good question...I think overall it's an expression, although there are some that will actually say a prayer. I'm not religious so I'll say something along the lines of "you're in my thoughts", to convey the same sentiment.
