R.I.P. Paul Benedict
Bentley from The Jeffersons has passed away! The AP reports that Paul Benedict who played Mr. Bentley was found dead by his brother on Martha's Vineyard. He was 70. His brother said his death was still being investigated by authorities. Sadness.
Paul also played The Mad Painter on Sesame Street for a few years in the 70s.

Rest in peace, Paul Benedict....

Was Paul 'of the persuasia'?
-----------------------------------------
Mrs C, **loved** that comment! "persuasia"....I will start using that a lot from now on.
Yeah, I knda wondered if he was a queen, as well...none of the obits mention a wife/girlfriend and that usually means "fairy". Or the obit will state "Mr Benedict was never married and lived with his male secretary of 40 years". Like Fred Mertz...

I had such a MAJOR crush on him when I was a kid! I thought he was the bomb! I was a weird kid with weird tastes but I defend them to this day. I will miss you Paul! "The Jeffersons" was one of the shows that shaped my life along with "All in the Family" and "Good Times". There will never be TV like those days.
He was the painter?! I had no idea! Awwwwwwwww :(

People Suck!
Noooo, not Paul Benedict :( He was so awesome. This is truly sad. I hope there's a heaven, and that he's relaxing and hanging out with Isabel Sanford in it. This is so sad :(
I just saw him on some rerun on TV the other day. I always wondered if he was the painter on Sesame Street. I think he inspired me to become a signwriter. (my real job)
RIP

Dear God, I believe the only cast members left are Florence, the son Lionel(s), and Jenny the Willis' daughter.
"George" is still alive and kicking.
Mr Bentley is looking a little Screechish in that last pic. RIP! Everyone loved Bentley!

I smacked a bitch and I liked it.
We thought he was at least 10 years older.
Was Paul 'of the persuasia'?
OMG I love The Mad Painter... Aww REST IN PEACE PAUL BENEDICT... you know 70 is a bit 'young' today in age to pass on.
I also love Paul in "Spinal Tap" as the hotel clerk who gets called a poufer and tells them "Im exactly as God made me sir!"
RIP Paul ,great character actor, 1st Odetta, now Paul, who will be the 3rd movie star death this week?

He also played the idiot director in "The Goodbye Girl" who said that Richard III was "a flaming homosexual."
I hope some short, angry angel is shouting at him right now: "Shut up, Bentley!" :-)

Who can possibly forget Paul Benedict in "Waiting for Guffman" - remember,he wasn't Guffman. One of my favorite movies.
He was the funniest person on the show.

Waaah! Goodbye Bentley. actually I thought he had already died. Maybe I got him confused with Carlton the Doorman on Rhoda(although he was only a voice and not a character on the show). Or maybe confused with the white dude married to Lenny Kravitz' mom on the Jeffersons. Hmm.
That sucks! I loved Mr. Bentley!
He also had a great cameo in the Seinfeld ep "The Cartoon" playing a snooty New Yorker magazine editor...very sad.
I hope "death being investigated" doesn't mean suicide. That would really suck.
R.I.P. Bentley! Say hi to Weezy!
I just saw Paul in a movie I had never heard of "Jeremiah Johnson" (not a bad film), so I did some research on him on imdb.
Turns out he was an American, but everyone thought he was a Brit from his role on the Jeffersons.
To me he had one of the best lines in Spinal Tap. When Ian the manager is having trouble booking the band into a hotel, he calls the poor clerk behind the desk, Paul Benedict, a "Fucking Fairy" to which he meekly responds, "Sir, I'm just as God made me".
The best.
I presumed he was gay from the lack of any spouse details on imdb, and the fact that they said he now lived in Martha's Vinyard.

I never realized until now that he was the painter guy from Sesame Street. He was brilliant as Bentley--it's a testament to his great acting that I didn't know he was American until today. RIP.
Heavy! I loved this show as a kid, and he was perfect as Mr Bentley...

Me too. I always thought he was gay before I knew what gay was. And then he got that girlfriend and I was confused. Hey, I was a little kid!
Oh Shit, I forgot all about that painter on Sesame Street. RIP Mr. B.

I liked this guy. He added a touch of class to everything in which he appeared.
Like diamonds, we are ground by our own dust.
I liked him. RIP
This might sound gross but i used to get really horny when i would watch him on The Jeffersons. I was still just learning how to masturbate with veggies back then, i think a pickle took my virginity around that time. I wanted to fuck his nose really bad, shit, thats how i also feel about Bill Clinton when i see him even today! Since i dont believe people rest in peace while being eaten by worms after they've kicked the bucket, i guess i should say, IWTFYN to Paul Benedict!
