George Clooney dodges marriage the same way most gynecologists dodge Wonky McValtrex's diseased snatch. Well, the man who wants nothing to do with marriage has spoken out against California's gay marriage ban.
Georgie told E!'s Ted Casablanca: "At some point in our lifetime, gay marriage won't be an issue, and everyone who stood against this civil right will look as outdated as George Wallace standing on the school steps keeping James Hood from entering the University of Alabama because he was black."
Ignore all those words he said. Forget that. He was really saying, "Michael, if you make Prop. 8 disappear, I will marry you legally in California without a pre-nup." Seriously, he said that! Yes, the US Constitution reigns over the CA Constitution. The more knotty issue is whether one state amendment can be declared unconstitutional under another part of the same constitution. Recall that, the first time around, when the CA Supremes ruled against the first marriage statute, they used the CA Constitution as their basis.

P.S.: About 3 years ago, my sister and her partner considered moving to Texas because my sis's company was offering her a promotion if she moved their, and housing was much cheaper, etc. But in the end they decided not to because of what-ifs like what if my sister or her part-- oh fuck it -- the woman who should be my SIL -- were hospitalized, or what if one of them died, how would a will hold water; they are planning to have children, etc. Legally to risky; even as the law stands now in CA, a domestic partnership is way much more protection than a Christie-fundie-dominated "red state."
So yes, she passed on the promotion.

Protests are important because the kind of people that are used to imposing their fears and religious views as law want the people they hate and fear to remain invisible. Out of sight, out of mind. I like that finally there are protests near the churches that poured their tax exempt dollars in fearmongering. I've seen beautiful pictures of regular, everyday, professional people with children in front of these places where the "flock" of sheep would like to believe these are all eeeevil perverts.
AND it is being followed with more suits. Churches should only have the tax exemptions or secular nonprofits. This is just the latest example of bigots and bigoted churches wanting to impose their biases on the rest of society. Separation of church and state protects us all.

That said, our supreme court has struck down amendments to the state constitution which it holds violates the federal constitution. The protests, in the form of lawsuits, has provided the court with the opportunity to strike down Prop. 8 as a violation of the federal constitution.

Government Accountability Office (GAO), more than 1,138 rights and protections are conferred to U.S. citizens upon marriage by the federal government; areas affected include Social Security benefits, veterans' benefits, health insurance, Medicaid, hospital visitation, estate taxes, retirement savings, pensions, family leave, and immigration law.
How does this affect the straight community? That they are so frightened as to not give couples equal rights under state/federal laws?
