So Long, Gus
The world is a prettier place today (that's a bad thing), because Gus, the world's ugliest dog, has gone on to heaven at the age of 9. His family said he suffered from cancer.
The one-eyed, three-legged Chinese Crested was rescued from a shitty home and adopted by a family in Florida. He lost one of his legs because of a skin tumor and lost one of his eyes in a cat fight. You should see the pussy.
Gus entered the World's Ugliest Dog contest in Norther California this past summer and won the top prize. The prize money was used towards Gus' radiation treatment.
Rest in peace, Gus.... I know you are permanently winkin' at us from above, where you were just crowned the Most Beautiful Dog in the Heaven.

I know, Clarisse. I find it disturbing. My adopted chihuahua, who by the way, gets along with the shepherd splendidly, has also been the subject of ridicule. One day when visiting La Jolla again to see a vintage car show (and inadvertently also a plastic surgery freak show) children began pointing to him saying "Eww look how big he is". All because he is a healthy 9 pounds and not some 4 pound accessory to stuff in my purse.

Aww, poor Gus. They say the big stars always go in threes. For their sake I hope Ginger O'Day and Daisy Simpson are next on the list.
My German Shepherd is missing half an ear. My daughter named him Hoffanear. He was like that when we adopted him from German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles. But he had the sweetest disposition of all the dogs at the center and we couldn't believe when he came right up to offer us his paw that no one else had even inquired about him.
One day I was walking Hoffanear around La Jolla and some lady all shot up with collagen asked me if I was going to have some plastic reconstructive surgery performed on his ear or if I was just going to walk around with him like that. I should have asked her if her lobotomy was expensive or if it came free with the wonky facelift.
