Prop 8 Passed....

Look at these two precious lesbians being all smiley and married. Well, Prop 8 has come along and stomped all over their pure happiness. They're just two sad lesbians now and that is a sin! Gayelles should never be sad.

Prop 8, which re-bans gay marriage, will most likely pass. Right now 95% of the votes have been counted. 52% are for and 48% are against. There's still around 4 million absentee ballots that need to be counted, but it's probably not enough to turn things around. The state is no longer marrying the gays as of today. It's looking grim and gross.

A few of the 18,000 couples that were married will file lawsuits. Civil rights groups are also challenging the measure by asking the Supreme Court to strike it down based on the argument that you can't just take shit away from one certain group.

I don't get this shit. I'm a tax-paying dumb bitch like everyone else. I should have the right to fly to California, catch a sugar daddy on his death bed, marry him, wait a couple of months for him to kick it and then collect all his cash. Seriously, that's my lifelong goal and now a bunch of fun killers in California have stopped me from being able to achieve this!

Not that I know shit about shit when it comes to tax laws but, all the gays in Califuckedup need to refuse to pay taxes to a government that refuses them the rights everyone else has. PERIOD.

I feel bad for you too. You should have the right to get married if you choose. If you work and pay taxes you should have the same rights.

This is not about protecting children, if these zealots cared about children they wouldn't have wasted all that cash on bigotry, but rather used it to repair schools, or fund research for childhood diseases. They also wouldn't have used other people's children without their parents' permission in their hateful commercials, or brought their own four and five year olds out to protest marches. I swear I'd like to give all those Mormons with their magic underwear a melvin they'll never forget. And that goes for all the other haters who sided with them.

I think it's ironic...

70% of African-American's voted for the re-ban.

So in essence.

One group's civil rights dream was achieved on the backs of another group's civil rights dream.

Amen to that. Total hypocrisy.

I am confident that we will look back on these anti-gay laws the same way we look back at segregation laws. With complete disgust and a general "WTF were we thinking?" attitude.

In all the happiness I felt last night, that was what tinged it with sadness.

I do have to point out something interesting I just saw, although OT. Faux News is trying hard, for a few days anyway, to seem excited about Obama becoming President.

They even acted all appalled last night when Ralph Nader referred to Obama being an 'Uncle Tom...to corporations'.

Take a look at the hypocrits at work...

I wasnt aware only Hispanics' had priests that molested boys..

Of course many Hispanics voted against it, and half, if not all, were mostly Catholic I'm sure. It's OK to let their priests get away with molesting boys, but not for gays to find true happiness. Fucking bullshit.

Why is labeling a relationship as "married" mean so much? Isn't it just another Judeo christian label the zealots use to beat everyone over the head with.

I thought gay folks still have the same rights as "married" people like insurance, adoption, wills, etc. I'm just asking.

Just an FYI:

"Proposition 8 Protest Rally & Street Closures
Wednesday, November 5th

As deeply disappointed as we all are that California voters passed Proposition 8, we must not allow that disappointment to linger. This vote is a temporary defeat in the long march toward equal rights for all citizens in America.

Please join me for a protest rally tonight at 7 pm on San Vicente Blvd between West Hollywood Park and the Pacific Design Center (647 N. San Vicente Blvd. West Hollywood CA 90069) as we move forward towards restoring equality for all in California.

San Vicente Blvd, between Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose Avenue will be closed tonight starting at 6 pm. San Vicente south-bound traffic will be directed to make left or right at Santa Monica Blvd. Signs have already been posted to help divert traffic."

From a straight girl:

This is a Constitutional equal protection argument- plain and simple. Our states are enacting laws that unfairly single out and disadvantage one group of people over another.

The problem is, our country has never recognized gays as a group of people who are targets of discrimination. Not in hate crime laws, not in employment laws under Title VII, NOTHING. So we take rights away from gay people, but also refuse to acknowledge that they are a disadvantaged group whose rights are being denied. Where is their protection? Where is their equality?

This whole thing makes me want to vomit. I'm sick of these arguments that "traditional marriages need to be protected" and that the "sanctity of marriage is at stake."

What are we protecting? Britney Spears' right to get a 55 hour marriage in Vegas? Green card marriages? What?

A gay couple getting married isn't going to threaten any straight couple's rights. You don't want gay marriage? Fine. Don't marry a gay person.

If the Catholic Church doesn't want to marry gays, that's one thing. But I do not see how our country can deny gay people the right to go to a judge and be married.

Let me remind you all of something: until the decision of Loving v. Virginia, whites and blacks could not inter-marry. That kind of concept is foreign and abhorrent to our society now. I am confident that in 50 years, we will have the same kind of contempt for laws like Prop 8.

Rant over.

JillyPoo's picture

It makes me sick that my cousin and his partner of 10 years (who are in one of the most loving, supportive, healthy relationships I've ever seen) can't get married because they're both guys. Yet fucktards like Britney Spears can get married on a drunken whim in Vegas, and gold diggers like Anna Nicole Smith can use marriage to manipulate their way into millions. And some dumbasses think homosexuals being allowed to marry would take away the "sacredness" or marriage?

please everyone, dont fall into the mindless trap of:

republicans = conservatives = bad

democrats = liberals = good

or flip flopped. The gay marriage issue doesnt belong to one party. Like I said before, its more likely to become legal under republican leadership; although I belive it is only a matter of time before it is totally legal no matter who's watch it happens under.

I have a lot of gay friends who've been in monogamous relationships that lasted longer than my 1st marriage. To take something away that was finally awarded (& should have been a given since day one) is unspeakably cruel. I can't see how gay marriages hurt anyone. Love is love. I have to believe "God" is just happy to see 2 of His creations find someone they want to walk through the world with.

I got this email from a very dear (gay) friend who now lives in Cali. I don't know if this will help anyone, but I figured it's worth a shot.

CELEBRATION
As with many of you, I'm celebrating this morning in the fact that America has believed in HOPE and OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL with the election of Barack Obama as our next President. I feel privileged that I'm witnessing this historical moment in our country. All of us for many years will pass on the story of this time and place in our history and for all of time the history books will retell the story to many generations yet to come.

DISBELIEF
There is still work to be done with regards to Civil Rights. Unfortunately, the ban on gay marriage was passed in California and the supporters within days will be headed to court to have all the marriages performed in the last few months nullified. We must not give-up on this fight. I myself thought this morning, "Well if California can't stop this ban, who can?" Then I paused and thought of your new President's mantra "Yes, we can!" and I felt HOPE once again.

LOL I thought about that after I posted. I certainly don't prescribe to that therory at all. What happens between consenting adults is their business, and I adamently support civil rights for ALL Americans. I read Madison and Jefferson to include everyone, not just those we morally agree with. Isn't that another insane boogeyman arguement about homosexuals--that they are just waiting to molest children?☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Of the people I know that voted for Prop 8, they did so as to prevent the public school system from teaching their children about sexual orientation.

Not that that makes it right, but that is their arguement."

It was a scare tactic. Schools don't teach marriage nor discuss it at all. 100 percent of the "Yes on 8" commercials were completely false and used as a way to scare people into thinking that "traditional" marriages are the way to go.... because of what the Bible "says." America was built on the fundamental right that everyone should live the lives they wanted; instead, it's like old England yet again.
