Prop 8 Passed....
Look at these two precious lesbians being all smiley and married. Well, Prop 8 has come along and stomped all over their pure happiness. They're just two sad lesbians now and that is a sin! Gayelles should never be sad.
Prop 8, which re-bans gay marriage, will most likely pass. Right now 95% of the votes have been counted. 52% are for and 48% are against. There's still around 4 million absentee ballots that need to be counted, but it's probably not enough to turn things around. The state is no longer marrying the gays as of today. It's looking grim and gross.
A few of the 18,000 couples that were married will file lawsuits. Civil rights groups are also challenging the measure by asking the Supreme Court to strike it down based on the argument that you can't just take shit away from one certain group.
I don't get this shit. I'm a tax-paying dumb bitch like everyone else. I should have the right to fly to California, catch a sugar daddy on his death bed, marry him, wait a couple of months for him to kick it and then collect all his cash. Seriously, that's my lifelong goal and now a bunch of fun killers in California have stopped me from being able to achieve this!

That's one problem with Prop. 8. It did not contain in retroactivity language. The validity of the marriages that occurred is up-in-the-air.
The court's may decide that those marriages are valid but no same-sex marriages after November 4, 2008. That's how alcohol possession was handled after the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment. If the hooch was legally-owned before passage then it was legal to keep owning it.

And just to enter the religious fracas, I would just like to say that I do not believe people should have the right to say that they disagree with homosexuality because their religion says so. Gay people are born that way and there ain't fuck all that they can do about it. Homosexuality isn't a practice you can adopt or drop at will, it is a state of being that you have no control over like the colour of your skin. It is as unacceptable to say you disagree with people being gay as it is to say you disagree with people being black. People should not be discriminated against on the basis of biological characteristics that they have no control over. Racism is not acceptable in our society and neither should be homophobia regardless of what you think your religious text tells you.
And on the subject of the bible, when will people ever understand that it was written by people not God and no person can ever remove themselves from the social and cultural preoccupations of their time. If we all followed what the bible said we'd all be living in tabernacles in the desert making burnt offerings to God and giving someone one of our goats if we committed a sin against them. Wake up! The world has moved on by 2 whole thousand fukcing years since then and our social and cultural values have been reviewed over and over again since then. If you want to believe in a religion then good luck to you, but please for the love of God stop confusing it with some things that some men wrote about 2000 years about how to live in a Judaeo-Christian type way. The bible was a guide for followers of the religion to live AT THAT TIME. I'm sure none of them would believe their eyes if they knew that 2000 years on people would still be digging up their words to justify whatever bigotted view they fancied.
