Obama's Grandmother Has Passed Away
Obama's memaw, Madelyn Dunham, died today in Hawaii after a battle with cancer. Obama's family issued this statement: "She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure."
Just a day before the election...... Sadness.

Sadness. RIP
Blessed for everything you've given me,
Blessed for all the tenderness you show,
Do my best with every breath that's in me,
Blessed to make sure you never go.
That's very sad.
RIP Grandma.
I hope you have a front row seat tomorrow from your viewpoint.
@TITS:
And I could make it worse. I really could;p
But I won't. It's been a quiet day - let's cherish that:)

I'd feel bad for him, but I'm too busy holding on to my guns and my religion.
So are you from Pennsylvania too?

another "typical white person" bites the dust. maybe barack should have been nicer to the woman who raised him while his hippie mom ran off to find arab and african peen.
Another "typical dumb ass making idiotic comments" when all you should really say is sorry for the loss.
Asshat.
I'd feel bad for him, but I'm too busy holding on to my guns and my religion.
RIP Memaw.
Go away Charles Manson, the man lost his Grandmom do you really need to talk all that shit?
If no one has done it yet, I'm calling Johnny Fairplay on his ass.
Awe, condolences to Obama and his family :( No matter what your party affiliation (nevermind mine!!), this is indeed sad news.

Maybe she is going to watch over him from a better place. As the next president of the United States, Barack is going to need a guardian angel.

I really, REALLY hope Obama can pull it out tomorrow.

Ok...I'm sad. But, quite frankly - this is the media we're talking about. "Sadness" wasn't my gut reaction. "Timely" was.
PS. I'm not saying she died on purpose...I'm just wondering about when exactly that happened...you know?

Are you saying she offed herself at the most opportune time to gain sympathy votes?
ANGEL! ANGEL_i HOW DARE YOU!

the fact that she died just ONE DAY before the election means that she was holding on as hard as she could.

Unfortunately, I think Obama will win but can you imagine if McCain pulls off the upset now. Talk about a bad week for a guy.
That pic melts my heart. There's nothing like a grandma's love.

"I'm John McCain, and I approve this mess!"
While on the one hand it's great that you have a scheduled election and they can hold office more than twice, but I have to say there is some beauty to the 'snap' elections we get here in Canada. No long drawn out mess, just wham bam, ohfuckwhodidweelect?

He, His Campaign, his family....whatever....it seemed like you were insinuating this....if not, then excuse me...
Hubby and I discussed this over the weekend, about what if something happened to her....If McStain loses, that is something he would probably say, "oh, he got the sympathy vote"....
So sad. May she rest in peace. Lots of strength to her family. On the other hand I like to think that Barack gained another (REALLY important) angel right on time.
@angel_i - can you imagine how awful it would be if she saw him get elected then picked off by some 'tard with a rifle? That would really fuck up a nanna's life. Nanna was lucky. Good timing.
Reminds me of when RuPaul's mother passed away from cancer right as Ru had walked out onto the stage in front of the Washington Monument where MLK once stood. RuPaul was there to speak @ a Gay Rights National March & stood proudly in front of a half a million gay and lesbian people and their friends, to claim our place here in the Sun, part of the American Dream.
So , in a way, sometimes, the people we love the most who are ill , will cross over to the other side to help us in ways they couldnt do while here on earth.
Obama is not perfect, but I know one thing. tomorrow is where America speaks up and says "ENOUGH". People remember, Obama will be only as good as we, the people, force him to be. It aint over.
VOTE
RIP Mrs. Dunham.

Condolences to their whole family.
Condolences to Barack Obama and his family. It's truly sad that none of his grandparents or parents are alive to see him make history tomorrrow.
Thank you "toot" for raising such a strong, inspirational leader. You did good. RIP.

Huh? She was old and broke her hip. Apparently you don't know much about the elderly. Breaking a hip when you are that old very often leads to death. Either due to the injury itself because of the amount of important arteries in this area, or because the treatment often results in the finding of another problem, which in this case appears to have been a reoccurance of cancer. It was no secret that she previously had cancer. I can tell you that I know of many people, including a close family member and a neighbor, who seemed fairly healthy for their advanced age, yet died within a few weeks of breaking a hip.

and BTW...some of us voted EARLY so this would have no bearing.....
How incredibly sad to pass away right before she got to see her grandson elected as the leader of the free world.
The loss of a good person is more widely felt and the grief more intense. To shape a young person and to give them hope, especially to see beyond the barriers of placed before them, is a gift. Part of her will walk that stage election night.
