Jennifer Hudson's Mother & Brother Found Dead
Sad news out of Chicago. Jennifer Hudson's mother was found dead in her Chicago home at around 3 this afternoon. Two people were found fatally shot in the South Side home. The family's church confirmed that one of the victims was 57-year-old Darnell Hudson. The identity of the other victim hasn't been confirmed yet.
Condolences to Jennifer Hudson and her family.
UPDATE: The other victim has been identified as Jennifer's brother, Jason. They were found by Jennifer's cousin. Police believe the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute. Police are reportedly looking for a man and a 7-year-old boy. (Source)
UPDATE II: The boy is Jennifer's nephew, Julian King. An Amber Alert has been issued. Police believe Julian was taken from the home. They are looking for a 1994 White Chevy Suburban with license plate: X584859. (Source)
UPDATE III: Jennifer Hudson's brother-in-law, William Balfour, was arrested by police. JHud's nephew Julian is still missing. William isn't cooperating with police or giving any kind of information. They believe William kidnapped Julian from the home after the murders. Police are still looking for Julian.
William has a long, long criminal history. He has served 7 years in prison for attempted murder.
Neighbors are saying that William and Julia had been fighting for the past two weeks over a car. They say William sold her car without her permission. (Source)

I've been reading all the comments about Julian, & I think there may be some hope. He's 7, so he's somewhat self-suficient. He should understand the concept of hiding & keeping quiet if he's very afraid. My son is 5, & I think if, God forbid, somebody he knew committed these horrible acts & then took him, self preservation might just kick in.

The little boy not being found makes my blood run cold. I can't imagine this having a good ending for him. So sad.

@Sheeps, I think this whole self denfence bs varies from state to state. A few years ago in PA the idjits in Harrisburg were talking about rewritting it to make it easier on morons who shoot people and then claim self denfence.
Sometimes its a clear cut case of protecting ones self. But the laws can't be written in such a way that you invite people into your house and then murder them and then claim "I was only protecting my home and family due to an arguement over my crack."
And that actually happened last year at a superbowl party.

I'm not sure about that. The general US rule is you can defend yourself with the force necessary to repel the attack (and no more). If someone comes thru my front door, he's getting plugged in a vital organ or two.

Putas - that may have been based on a story about a British farmer actually as we had a case of that here. I remember it coming up in some discussion show I was doing about whether it was right to take the law into your own hands to defend yourself against crime. Some law student we had on said it was basically right that the man went to jail because he shot the kid in the back as he was running away from his house after trying to commit a burglary. The deal here is number one we don't believe in capital punishment so no crime is punishable by death including mass murder. So basically we think that a kid committing a burglary didn't deserve to die and the farmer shouldn't have taken the law into his own hands. If he had shot the kid in his house it may have been different, but he shot him as he was running away so he used more force than was deemed necessary. Commiting burglary is obviously wrong but our theory is he wasn't armed and so he didn't deserve to die - hence the farmer went to jail for a short time. It was very controversial at the time, hence the show about it, but thats basically the argument for it anyway.
Yeah Paul Walker is hot. My theory was he was too pretty to be a serious leading man- he really isn't that bad. Loved the movie with the sled dogs I cried when I saw it.

There was some movie I saw recently (Paul Walker- yeahhh he was in Fast and Furious BUT he did a good job in this movie- Val Kilmer (unrecognizable) and Walker were in it. I need to go to IMDB.com anyway.
It was about a guy who shot a burglar who was fleeing his house but because the man was just outside his door on the lawn he went to prison. Damn.
Even if ya dragged the guy back inside you know forensics would see that shit.
I agree with knowing how to use them and keeping it at home for safety. Break-ins can happen anywhere to anyone.

However if someone is as unstable and determined as this guy was they would likely find another way to commit such a crime. Arson, use of knives, etc. Guns do seem to make it easier but let's not fool ourselves into thinking there is an easy remedy for violence.
I read UK news quite often and I know that there is a huge problem with knife crimes over there. It's become quite an issue. Is that because guns are restricted? If so then they turned to knives? Who is to say. I agree people with mental health issues and criminal records in particular should not have access to firearms.
This is so sad. I haven;t read the recent comments any word on the little boy yet? Please have him recovered safely.

And not one time, did any fellow neighbors come to see what was going on, or make sure it wasn't real screams.. WTF is w/ that. I will NEVER fucking understand why someone would not call for help. I saw a show about two years ago that was filmed in a similar neighborhood, the community was teaching the kids NOT to report crimes or help police and to not get involved even if it was their own mother getting killed.
That was the most fucked up shit I had seen in a long time.
Sheeps - yeah football hooliganism was bad in the past but to my knowledge people didn't tend to die as a result. It was also mainly prevalent in the 80's and early 90's, its not really a problem nowadays except in places like Turkey where I think someone was actually killed as a result of football violence. The problem in the UK is with knife crime, and the victims and perpetrators are always the same - teenage, city-dwelling boys. We need to adopt a zero-tolerance policy to knife carrying, tougher sentencing and intensive youth education to tackle it. But in comparison to the violence caused by gun-toting gangs in the US; crazies going into colleges to massacre students; and just these types of random domestic shootings, our problems are minor - which is saying something! Change your gun laws - there is an obvious correlation between high gun ownership and high murder rates throughout the world. Its so obvious, but like so many things in the US (for example, that everyone should have access to free health care), politicians are too frightened of alienating their right wing voters to impose it. We don't have that hard right element in the UK and its a much safer, fairer country for it. I don't mean to sound like we're better than you, but I for one, for these reasons alone, am grateful to have been born in the UK and not the states!
I'd rather be dodging bullets than have to sit through ninety mind-numbing minutes of nil-nil "football".

Jesus Christ - the UK perspective is as always: America - your gun laws - sort it out. Guns are dangerous weapons and should not be owned by people who do not need them or do not own licences which are enforced by stringent regulations. These shootings do not need to happen. Remove guns from the possession of ordinary citizens. They are not weapons for people to "defend" themselves with, more often than not they are used to murder innocent people. Every time people in the UK hear these kind of stories our response is the same: what the hell was this man doing with a gun. Make gun ownership illegal - you live in a democratic, law-governed country guarded by police and an army, ordinary citizens do not need to own guns to protect themselves any more - please change your gun laws!

I tend to agree. However, poor, poor family. As a Brit I find it hard to understand how easy it is to shoot people in the US- not suggesting that it's all roses here but it's shocking to us how often people are shot in the US. If I were Ms Hudson I would hope to have moved my mum somewhere safer but she's grown woman and maybe did not want to go.
