Guy Ritchie Parties His Troubles Away
Vadge's last victim, Robert Downey Jr. and some old timey bank robber all went out together in London last night. The three of these scallywags are working on that Sherlock Holmes movie shit together. Guy's nuts might be growing back, because he was all smiles and held his head up high as they all made their way to a party at the White Cube Gallery. Guy could be all smiley and shit because he's excited about the open bar he's about to attack. Open bars cure almost any problem!
If you've been shot at by your man, lost your corner on the ho stroll and caught your dog doing wet doody times in your favorite shoes all on the same day....none of that matters if you have an open bar in front of you. It's a beautiful thing. Some people go to church or the crack house to ease the pain, I find an open bar!

SICKITTEN - You've gotten nothing right about me. First of all, it is alknowingone, like as in "Al" not "All". It is a play on words that you wouldn't get unless you knew me personally. If you knew me, you'd also know that I am not a 12-stepper or a member of a recovery program as you suggest but I do know addiction. No, I am not currently a drug user. 12-step recovery works wonders for many people but it is not for all people. You are a living example of that. You need to be a person who can accept that others may know something more about a subject than you do. I also am quite good looking, physically fit and smart. You however are a presumptuous ass and likely an addicted one at that. Keep searching, you'll find something that will help you get off whatever shit you are on. When you find it, stick with it and stay out of bars.

I wasn't saying that since he didn't have a problem with booze initially that it's ok for him to drink. I was wondering, looked it up and got my answer.
You obviously havn'y been around here long, I know addiction first hand.
And it's attitudes like yours, who can't praise someone for their sobriety and say "the odds are against him" "he won't stay clean" that are damning. It is possible to get and stay clean.

M.E. - You may not ever see this post since it has been a few days since you last wrote on this topic. I don't think I was trying to make you look like an idiot. I am sorry if it seemed that way. It sincerely seemed to me that you were naive about addiction and that is not me trying to slag on your character. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all be naive? I interpreted your statements to mean you were saying it would be ok for him to drink socially and/or hang out in bars with drinkers as long as that wasn't part of his original addiction. That's how it sounded to me.
I've been reading Dlisted and the comments for over a year now but I only recently started posting. I am not as dedicated to getting my opinion logged as many of the posters here are. I definitely see a lot of the same names coming up time and time again but I don't keep track of the different personalities behind the user names their avies. It is actually nice to know that someone was reading what I wrote, contemplating it and took the time to respond. I am not sure I've actually earned all the attention!
I too know firsthand, and secondhand. I know relapses actually start long before the addict actually resumes the consumption of their D.O.C. Relapses start with a return to addict behaviors and attitudes. One of those attitudes is to think you can hang out in places where mind-altering substances and the people using them are found without eventually partaking yourself. The odds ARE against him. Ask anyone who works in the field of substance abuse treatment or is actively involved in recovery. That's not a bad attitude on my part. It is a fact. RDJ looks to me like he's, at the very least, let his guard down regarding his recovery and addiction.
I never said "he won't stay clean" but I do know many people who've stayed sober for decades. The concept of "People places and things" and avoiding those you encountered when using, is very important to long-term success in recovery. I know chronic relapsers too and they don't seem to get the concept quite as well. I don't know RDJ personally but even though, I wish him nothing but the best in life. I just call 'em like I see 'em and seeing photos of him on his way to, or from, a bar makes me feel doubtful for him.
RDJ looks like shit warmed over...what's with those clothes??? Sorry, he looks like a little bitty boy with an old man face. Hit it? I think not. Guy looks glad he's free and ready to get on with it...but, uh, lose the sweater...not a chick magnet. I love Jude, and he looks deliciously porny with his Sherlock 'stache. It's true love, baby. I hope I am wrong on this but the odds are against him staying sober for the long run under the best of circumstances and hanging out in bars with drunks is far from the best of circumstances. It is something like 4% or less of crack addicts that get sober and do not relapse. Those are bad odds.

Yes, I'm a RDJ fan, but then again, I know people that were on a similar situation that him and relapsed, a some others that through their own effort haven't.
If these guys are really his friends then they will look for him in every way, regardless the situation, booze or not.

If your theory rang true then food addicts would never be cured. There is obviously something 'more' going on in someone's head that causes them to be an addict of ANYTHING in the first place. There are lots of normal, natural things that people can get addicted to...even sex and exercise. -And don't get me started on the 'internet' or video games. lol

Well M.E., I am happy for you that you are neither an addict yourself nor do you have any close to you apparently. Sober addicts working an active program of recovery, which RDJ says he is, cannot have any mind-altering substances at all...illegal or legal. It is not just a case of staying away from the substance that caused the most problems for him. It is all substances that need to be avoided for the one simple reason that under the influence of anything, an addict is more apt to relapse on their drug of choice than if they are completely straight and sober. You cannot make good decisions for yourself when under the influence of alcohol and your inhibitions are lessened. This is especially true for a drug addict. I know a crack addict who thought she could drink sociably after getting clean from her crack addiction. After all, it wasn't booze that she had a problem with, right? Wrong! It took a year or two but she ended up with that crack pipe in her mouth again and that was the only place that scenario could have gone. A drug is a drug is a drug and yes, alcohol is a drug. It's just a legal one. RDJ may claim to be "sober" but I have my doubts based on his recent behavior.
