Jenny McCarthy Just Exploded
Denis Leary is an asshole and he knows it. He loves it. So anything that comes out of his mouth, I just slather it between two pieces of white bread and throw it in the pile with his other shit sandwiches. Here's Denis' latest shit sandwich from his new book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid:
"There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."
The Autism Society of American issued this statement in response:
"For Mr. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous . . . [His] remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago."
Denis really knows how to take his point and wrap it in a big box of vomit.
Once Jenny McCarthy pieces herself together from exploding, she's going to explode again. Once she's done with that, she's going to rip Denis to shreds. And I hope it's on live television.

Right on kaiserin!
Looking at the amount of offended mothers on this thread with alleged fucktard kids, I think they need to get off D-listed and tend to their off-spring's needs, whatever they may be. Some are moaning on here like it some kind of fucking support group for the mothers of alleged fucktards.

And the running commentary, and having people mad at you all the time, and you're still laughing at the joke when the class is already quiet, and you take every fun thing to the next level too far.... Again. who would want to fake that!!!

Jenny and her gang are not popular among many families. First of all, it's the attitude that she has the answers when her kid is all of 4 years old and he's the only person she knows with autism. And secondly, that a cure is imminent or the cause has been discovered. I WISH!
My domestic partner of 10 years, who is no relation to my son, was just diagnosed with Aspergers at the age of 48. I knew all along and those traits of honesty and consistency are what attracted me to him in the first place. But I'd never said anything because I am autism-total-immersion-girl, so he wouldn't have believed me. But he's very relieved to be able to say "I can't" when invited to social events, instead of ignoring the request and feeling guilty. BTW he has a PhD from Yale (He was there with Duchovny but Duchovny left early) and makes 6 figures, so your son can go far if he can play the game. There is a book called "All Cats Have Asperger's Syndrome" that's really cool and funny, if you like cats.
My son's autism is pretty severe. He can type with support but has never said a word, is still learning personal care and toileting, and has a lot of trouble with tantrums. But he works full time and has become a very good woodworker and artist. He also loves to bake, when it involves great tools like a rotary apple peeler and a mechanical chopper, and a good heavy rolling pin - which I would like to use on Denis Leary and Jenny McCarthy both!

Ms. Caligula-
I'd wish an expert like you to have children with ADHD like my son, but I'm not so cruel. We have rules and dscipline in my house, as well as love, and I DO parent my child.
Maybe a smack on the ass would cure those whiney brats with cancer, too. *eyeroll*

Oh, I also meant to ask (if anyone knows the answer), can they test for autism while you're pregnant, or is it something that happens later?
Kaiserin
our very own compassionate Republican
I actually agree with him, sort of. Obviously, autism is legitimate and it's sad and needs to be cured, but I don't think that every kid that is labeled "autistic" is, in fact, actually autistic. I think a lot of them DO have shitty, lazy parents that let them act like monsters, and they grasp onto a label that gets them sympathy and attention, instead of disgust and condemnation for being utterly ineffectual, lazy parents.
Maybe Leary should have phrased it a little nicer, but I also don't blame him for how he said it. I bet he's sick of the hypersensitive, perpetually offended weeping vaginas out there, one of which is Jenny McCarthy. Now THAT bitch is one who is using her poor retard kid to get attention and pity. You just KNOW she looooves being portrayed as this saintly mother and this warrior in the crusade for a cure for autism. Fuck that ugly cunt, she's as phony as a 3-dollar bill, and her "outrage" (and we WILL hear her fucking commentary, do not doubt it) is annoying. People like her make me not give a shit about whatever cause they are championing, just because they are so insufferable. God I hate her.
However, every single kid I've seen with this ADHD bullshit doesn't have any kind of legitimate problem except a lack of discipline from their parents.
...I won't argue with you but my nephew said to tell you that he thinks his red ass and lack of toys or TV in his room begs to differ with your opinion.
It's really no way to live, and when you see a kid with it, really breaks your heart. Especially because my nephew is very sweet and intelligent....but his fidgetiness and lack of impulse control just wear on you, and he just seems to lack this basic understanding deep in his brain core on how to change himself socially, how to adapt.

I honestly think ADHD is nothing more than a cop-out for lousy parenting & too much sugar.

I do not know what the statistics are, but I do know of at least one case where that is absolutely true.
It is heartbreaking and maddening to watch.

What if a woman can't afford plastic surgery - are there any alternatives you can suggest?
Yes I recommend she develop a personality and learn to bake.
Kacky, I didn't mean to exclude you, I just knew they had close connections with autism. One reason I ask is because my 25 year old shows some Aspergers characteristics. So I was just curious. His father was one of those who was all over the place on the personality scale. (fun for a single 20 year old to be around, not so much for a 35 year old mom)
I just know that Jenny is making huge noise about the supposed connection to immunizations.

Autism is very real, but often misdiagnosed and overreacted to. Same with ADHD and many spectrum disorders. I think he could have put it differently, but then when as Leary ever put things sensitively?
Fact is, too many kids are diagnosed by doctors in a hurry to find an "answer" and some parents just blindly accept these diagnoses rather than push back and do some research on their own.
Maybe Leary is really autistic and having a fucktard moment??
His remarks about autism were/are beyond insensitive, but this is Denis Leary we're talking about here. . .

While I don't agree with him about autism (I think it's a legitimate disorder), I do think the exact same thing could be said about ADHD. My husband's second cousin has autism, & it's quite obvious that he has a real problem. However, every single kid I've seen with this ADHD bullshit doesn't have any kind of legitimate problem except a lack of discipline from their parents. I know there's some people who'll argue with me about this, but I honestly think ADHD is nothing more than a cop-out for lousy parenting & too much sugar.

A possible reason why children get diagnosed with ADD/ADHD so often, America has a severe problem with
listening skills! This one reason why the United States is so far behind on education culturally than so many other countries. So many people, adult and children alike, think they can do a million things at once and give a person their full attention. Its just not possible!
PS guys, don't forget that people do not outgrow autism. Grownups have it too.
I know you didn't ask me rshales, but as the mother of a 24-year-old and the aunt of a teenager, both with autism, my gut is that it was not the shots. The teenager has a brother and sister who both have ADHD (oh yeah. It's real) and their mother is bipolar. My son's dad is the poster child for Borderline Personality Disorder. I think it's genetic in some cases, environmental pollution in others.

"ADD is often connected to overwhelmed teachers, since it is usually a school counselor who makes the "diagnosis".
I worked for a psychologist and that statement is probably pretty close to truth. Alot of the patients referred to the office for ADD testing were per the request of teachers and school counselors. Mostly teachers and very few primary care physicians.

well said.
Oh, since we are on the subject of autism (thank you MK) I want you all to know that the Autism Society of America and its local chapters do not solicit donations by telephone and they don't condone it. There are tales of a group that is being very rude and mean to people. Hang up, do not donate to autism over the phone. Get with your local ASA chapter instead. I have all the contact names and numbers for New England, New York and New Jersey if anyone needs them, and I can point you leaders in any other region. Just google my nickname and my state, Maine, and you will find my email.

Astonishing how the world works, hmm?
Some people break their backs to amass a knowledge worth sharing with others, and then struggle to have one word published in the public domain.
On the other hand, some people skip the whole 'education' thing, and instead fill paper with their inane scribblings - which are quickly published and earn the moronic author vast sums of money.
Does this arsehole have any concept of psychology or neuroscience? Does he understand how clinical professionals operate?
Or is he just another self-important comedian who forgot that his role in society amounts to little more than the court jester?

I normally like Denis Leary, but there are lines you just don't cross. Jenny McCarthy's son was diagnosed with autism as a baby, maybe a toddler. And last time I checked, all babies were lazy and stupid. They're so stupid, they can't wipe their own asses!
Denis is probably thinking of ADD and ADHD, which have been over-diagnosed in children.
*************************
I totally agree. Denis is an asshole, but normally a funny asshole who doesn't say things THIS insensitive & terrible. This really pisses me off, and I hope Jenny McCarthy (or anyone who has the chance) rips him a new one.
I am always baffled when shit like this makes it into a book. I understand *thinking* something this rude... Or maybe mentioning it to your spouse or a good friend... But how could Denis WRITE this, show it to people, get it past HOW MANY editors--and no one thought this was a bad idea??? Going just a little too far??? What the fuck.
I used to nanny for a 3-year-old boy with autism, and I can absolutely say that he was not stupid OR lazy. It was very obvious that he wasn't "trying" to act differently than most children, or just being a jerk. Autism is real, and Denis has obviously never met anyone affected with it or else he would shut the hell up.
P.S. This isn't even good comedy. How many other assholes have said something similar to this? Or, as stated in the response by the Autism Society, by people in the 1950s? Does he think this is "edgy comedy" just because it's rude, hurtful, and controversial? This is a tired topic, and his opinion has been refuted again & again.

Then again, making fun of ADD/ADHD was popular maybe five to ten years ago, and the "hot new illness" to talk about now is autism.

Not that I've been to, but they might. I can't see why they wouldn't. The doctor that is doing all of the testing right now - or shall I say doctors- they are telling me that I need to get the depression under control before I think about occupational therapy. They are going over test results as we speak so they can figure out what meds and course of action they want me to take. I spent all last week with them . They tested my IQ (made me feel dumb actually, lol) asked me about my moods and had me take a couple of these psyche eval tests. Hopefully they will do what you said with the video tapes when they do the other stuff too.
I'm heading off now Frito so I just want to say hang in there, you sound like a fantastic person and all the best with the results. I really enjoyed chatting with you.
While I don't think autism can be attributed to inattentive parents, ADD can be. ADD is often connected to overwhelmed teachers, since it is usually a school counselor who makes the "diagnosis".
