The show is a lot more serious than the books. I thought it was total cheese when Sookie took off in the white gown to Bill's house. Also- Aphid mentioned before, but Tara isn't even the series until book #2, and not that close BFF with Sookie. LaFayette, another minor character in the books ROCKS in the show.
Tara and Lafayette are the best chars on the show. Alot more interesting than Sookie and her boring ugly vamp guy.
Anywho... love the show! Haven't read the books, but I'm tempted to get them.

Overall, IMO this show is boring and trite (FANGTASIA are you fucking kidding me????) but this LaFayette dude almost makes up for it. His sassy ass and Tara's momma busting her in the head with the bottle are the ONLY things I have found entertaining about True Blood
