The same thing probably happened to Katie that happens to kidnapped kids. The abductor (Cruise and Scientology) lock her up or tied her down for at least a month while threatening her and her family harm. After a time, Katie's mind fears Tom and Scientology so much that she is under his control. This is a similar method used on Elizabeth Smart and other kidnapped victims. Remember Katie was gone for a while. Scientology currently has people locked up at Gold - Scientology does kidnap and lock people up against their will.
