And It Gets Even Sadder

Just when you thought this story couldn't get anymore tragic, it does. I'm warning you. This might completely ruin your Saturday night.

UPDATE: TMZ removed their original story and corrected it. Publicists for Travis Barker and DJ AM said their sources are telling lies. Chris' wife was not about to go into labor at the time of the crash. That was also not the reason why they traveled on the Learjet. She's not even pregnant.

TMZ reports that Travis Barker and his friends weren't originally supposed to be on that Learjet last night. Earlier yesterday, Travis' assistant, Chris Baker, found out his wife was about to go into labor. Travis promised Chris that he would do whatever he could to get him home as quickly as possible. They learned that the fastest way to get from South Carolina to Van Nuys was to travel by private jet.

Travis doesn't usually fly by private plane, but did it so that Chris could be with his wife.

We all know what happened next. Four people including Chris were killed in the crash after midnight. Chris' wife went into labor this morning. They also have another child together.

Travis and DJ AM are currently being treated at a burn center in Augusta, GA. People reports that Shanna Moakler has flown from Los Angeles to be with Travis. Her mother said they haven't told Travi's kids yet until they know more. Travis reportedly suffered burns from the waist down.

One of DJ AM's friends told E! News that his face is very burned. The friend said, "More than 50 percent of his body is burned and the worst is on his face." He has been put in a doctor-induced coma so he can undergo skin grafts.

There is a whole lot of sadness on this one post. On that note, I think this is our cue to crawl into bed with a big bottle of anything alocholic.

Something tells me both of these twats very badly needed something like this to happen to them. Maybe Travis will actually focus on his family now instead of fucking around with Wonky McValtrex at industry parties, and maybe "DJ AM" will realize there's more to life than parading around relationships with celebutards and whatever the fuck he does for a living.

I had a modicum of respect for Travis Barker but he came off as an incredible poseur in that stupid reality show he had with that vapid ho. And as for DJ AM, no one knew who he was before he was fucking little skeletor. No one would know who he is to this day if it wasn't for little skeletor. I seriously have to question the judgment of anyone who would date Nicole Richie.

That said, I hope they make a full recovery and come out of this with a new perspective on life. I wouldn't wish this even on Paris Hilton (although if I was going to wish anything horrible on anyone, she'd be the first in line).

TMZ reports that their doctor is saying they will make a full recovery. While I am happy for them and their loved ones, despite how horrible recovery will be for them, I am bothered by those saying that God was watching out for them. As if God was not watching out for the four who died. That makes no sense. God gave us free will, Everything we do, everywhere we go is a choice, and choices have consequences. God does not pick and choose and say anyone is more worthy of life than anyone else. I don't think it works that way. I just think it was human error that caused this plane to crash and from where those two guys were sitting, they were lucky enough to escape. I say lucky, because they lived and get to see their families, while the others do not.
I pray that their recovery is as painless as possible and that they realize how fragile life is and once recovered enjoy every minute of every day. Life is a gift, no matter how long we get on this world, every minute is a gift.

Very sad for all those involved. I hope that DJ AM and Travis Barker are able to recover.

I had a friend in college that had his face burned bad as a child, he didn't have half his original jaw bone and his ear was totally missing. I never knew a man so full of life. it's a crazy world, and things happen for a reason. Thank god they are still alive. Our prayers are with them.

kate773's picture

Look, I make fun of celebrities as much as anyone. I think their lives are so ridiculous that it deserves to be made fun of. But I don't wish harm on anyone either. I have said (maybe not here) how gross I find Travis Barker. I can't understand how anyone can find him remotely attractive. However, I could never wish ill on him. I would never hope for someone's injury or death. I do say I think crying over this is a bit much, but some people are more empathetic than others and that's ok too.

I don't know, I'm hedging my bets here, I know, but I think there is/should be a line between making fun of celebrities and wishing them harm. I think that you're seeing that line on these threads.

You know, I don't mean to be a Scrooge but why is it when a celebrity is injured [[NOT DEAD]], everyone makes a huge fuss about it when...oh, I don't know, we have soldiers on the frontlines dying by the day yet no one really talks about that? Don't get me wrong, I do feel bad about the whole thing it's just, it kinda irks me because I went on myspace and people were all like "Pray for Travis and DJ AM" or when Anna Nicole died it was all "RIP Anna Nicole". There's so much shit happening to people around the world....hunger, war, poverty, abuse...and people seem to just let it go yet when something happens to a celebrity, the whole world has to stop.

Anyone else feel this way??
--------------------------------------------------
I understand where you are coming from, my guess is that when someone in the public eye has something shocking and terrible like this happen, we project our feelings on it as if it were someone WE knew who was harmed?

I really don't think it's because we don't care about the soldiers in Iraq or about the average Tom or Jane that was hurt, killed, etc....it just seems to hit closer to home simply b/c our culture identifies with celebrities generally?

It is a horrible thing-being burned, I never worked with burn patients (and I really don't think I ever could), but I know some RT's who have, and they say it's a horrible thing, a horrible way to go, one of the worst....the strongest painkillers don't cut it a lot of the time.

The prognosis sounds bleak for both of them, esp the one who was burned over 50%-in the face, etc. Chances are great the smoke/fire seared the lungs, and that's not a good thing.

I hate to say this, but I will be shocked if they pull through and have any semblace of a normal life. I hope like all hell I'm wrong.

They have youth and health on their side....so that's good.

Evidently an update states that Chris' wife was not going into labor at the time of the crash and that it wasn't the reason he wanted to fly home.

now this story isnt true..the labor part of the pregnant wife etc..according to TMZ..anytragichow, its all bad and shit. Burns are really life threatening..like the DR said on this thread...oh and waist down...thats not good for the peen...i'm just sayin..wow what a horrible drag

Tragic, they have a long road ahead of them ,I think they are both very talented men.

Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.

Burns are the worst. I think Travis will recover well with a lot of physical therapy he can return to performing, but DJ-AM has severe facial burns. I bet he will go into producing or something more behind the scenes. They both have years of hard work and recovery ahead of them, my thoughts and prayers go out to them both.

what is wrong with you a-holes saying you wish it had been Shitney or Amy Winehouse (or anyone else) on that plane? You are mean and small-minded nasty people. You must have miserable sad lives to wish evil on people you don't even know.

Fuck PETA. I'm all against animal cruelty, but banning things that actually help people is ridiculous. I think hunting for sport is sick and wrong, but I have no problem using hunting for meat, etc., like Ted Nugent.

Damn, it stories like this that make you realize what's important in life, the bullshit can always be put on hold.

I don't think Travis Barker or DJ AM will be giving anymore money to PETA since it's the pig skin grafts that PETA wants to ban,are what's keeping both of them alive right now!!!

Completely with you on that. And the whole, his wife was in labor, Travis scheduled the jet because of him, blah blah blah. And then someone else says that's completely false, his wife wasn't even pregnant, they were always scheduled on that jet- just goes to show you how people take something and run with it. They created a whole false storyline of the event. And all of the famewhores will fight to get their comments on Entertainment Tonight.

Crazy crazy, right?

I once read a note about DJ AM and I seriously believe that he is someone who has built a career on hard work and talent (it doesn't even matter that he was Nicole Richie's former BF)... and about Travis... I think that he is an amazing drummer... This note really made me feel sad, to the extent that I can say that it ruined my birthday (Sept. 21, a date I share with Nicole Richie)... I hope both DJ AM and Travis recover completely from their injuries as soon as possible.

Hey, I will be the first to say that i think that Travis is a total douchebag, and one ugly assed motherfucker, but I really *AM* sorry that this happened to him. Seriously, I think he looks like a piece of shit, but he could be the nicest guy ever, so my opinion means nothing. And still, he doesn't deserve this. I think very few people do....and it is sad. I can't even imagine what that would be like to be burned like that. How fucking horrible. And poor DJ AM, being burned on your face is one of my worst nightmares. I never hated him, I think he looks like he could be a nice guy, but even if he was an asshole, he STILL doesn't deserve this. Poor guys, I hope they'll be OK.

thats what is surprising me, all these people like "oh bless them, I'm going to pray for them" when just the other day, they were blasting them. I'm not interested in Travis and I think DJ Am would still be a nobody if it wasn't for fucking Nicole and other Hollywood starlets. And cmon, with thier $$$ they are getting the best treatment possible.

I saw Travis once at this restaurant in Detroit. I always sort of assumed he was a douche... but he actually was a really nice person. I didn't interupt his meal or anything, but it was a small Italian restaurant and I could just tell from the way he was interacting with those around him that he was a nice person. Lots of smiles and laughs with the waiter.

Anyway, DJ AM has always seemed like a nice person too. He's never seemed like your typical Hollywood guy. There was always this part of him that seemed genuine, real...

How sad. Being burned is horrible. I mean, I can't even imagine. My heart goes out to them. It's weird because horrible things happen to people everyday. I guess when it's a celebrity and you can sort of personify the sadness, it hits you hard. Not just for them.. but for all the sad things that happen on a day to day basis.

E! Online now says that Chris's wife was NOT expecting and/or pregnant. Who dreams up these stories? E! online says:

"In regards to [inaccurate reports], Lil Chris Baker did not ask for a jet to meet his wife in delivery because she's not even pregnant. A private jet had always been chartered as DJ AM had a private engagement today in Los Angeles."

So this whole side story of an already horrific event is completely made up.

I don't know what it is, I don't like Blink and I don't really know DJ Am as anything other than Nicole Richie's boyfriend, but damn, I feel so bad for them. I guess it's the burning, the torture of being on fire.. Adam, I'm guessing will be blind if he lives at all.. .It seems like a fate worse than death, and I just HOPE the events aren't as bad and they make it ok. but then again, I hoped that Bernie Mac wasn't dead, and that didn't work out either.

These are dangerous days.

What a truly sad story. Chris dies so he could be with his wife and welcome his new child into the world, and Travis suffers severe burns from crashing in a private plane he normally wouldn't travel on were it not for his care and concern for Chris.

While the pain and tragedy here is unmistakable what comfort there is comes from the love and loyalty that informed their decisions. It honors Chris's life and Travis's suffering that these were choices made two men who knew they had to do the right thing. In that case one did not die in vain and the other will not suffer in vain. They died in a way becoming of their life - love, loyalty, family, and friendship. May they always be honored for that and never, ever forgotten.

A publicist for Travis Barker and DJ AM contacted TMZ and says our sources are incorrect -- that Chris Baker's wife was not in labor when he died in the plane crash and that was not the reason Travis and the others flew home on a private jet.

The publicist adds, "Both Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) are in critical but stable condition and are being treated at Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia after surviving a plane crash late last night in Columbia, South Carolina.

The hospital will issue a statement with an update on their condition at 9:00 am eastern time tomorrow. Due to the nature of the injuries and the evolving course of treatment no further information on their condition is available at this time.

The accident claimed the lives of four people on board, two of whom, Chris Baker (Lil Chris) and Charles Stills (Che), were close friends of the injured.

On behalf of Travis Barker and DJ AM, deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of all who perished in the crash. As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them, their families, and friends is requested at this time."
