It's Been A Long Time Coming
Apparently, MTV's TRL is still on, but not for long. MTV has cut off that bitch after 10 years. The executive producer of TRL said the show's final episode will be a 2-hour special airing on a Saturday afternoon in November. He went on to say that TRL isn't ending for good, but they felt it was the right time to give it a break.
That makes sense. I mean, TRL does show music videos and MTV obviously doesn't care about those anymore, so it no longer fits in. I'm sure they will replace TRL with some badly-acted faux reality show.
TRL should have shut their doors in 2001 after Mimi's epic ice cream meltdown (clip above). Seriously, they would have ended on a high note. HIGH being the key word. I never understood the point of TRL until I watched Mimi go crazy on it. That's when I realized that the only TRL was born was to give us that moment. And for that, I thank TRL.

I was just ranting about TRL on here the other day. Me and my girlfriends use to love watching this show everyday after middle and high school. I would always get annoyed because they only played like 30 seconds of a video and then some moron would pop up in the corner of the screen giving shout outs and then yelling "whooooo!" Yes! I'll be honest, that show was great. I used to watch every day hoping that they'd show the very end of Korn's "Freak on a Leash" video--it was always number 2 or 3 on the countdown--but they never did. I also loved the Orgy video for "Stitches."
That said, I secretly enjoyed "Genie in a Bottle", Robbie Williams, and that Spice Girls video where they're in the snow with all those dead people.
TRL is and always was for teeny-boppers. Nothing but kids screaming, even in the middle of videos. It sucked donkey balls. Good riddance!

OMG I remember coming home from school and watching this shit RELIGIOUSLY. When they first started there wasn't that annoying audience, it was just Carson annoucing the countdown and there would occasionally be surprised guest stars. I also remember Kurt Loder, always sulking reminds me of professor Snape, and Serena Altschul I always thought she was so pretty. Damn I feel so old. I miss the 90s.

I used to watch TRL everyday when I got home from school when I was like in the eighth grade. They played videos for songs like Pretty Fly by Offspring, "Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly for a white guy Uno dos tres cuatro cinco cinco seís..." and some Spice Girls video in which they were singing in a winter landscape, the song was so memorable I can't even think of a single line from it, but they looked hot. And of course, who could forget "Hit me baby one more time," by brit brit, or "God must have spent a little more time on you," by N Sync.
They played those videos every fucking day, and my brother and cousin and I digested them like flintstones vitamins. Ahh, nostalgia...
