Saint Angie Banned In The U.K.

Not Saint Angelina herself. If that happened, the world would be sucked into a black hole.

Just a couple of posters featuring Saint Angie holding a couple of guns were banned. The U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority ruled that two movie posters for "Wanted" glamorize guns and violence. Only 17 complaints were made against the posters, but the ASA felt it was enough to ban them forever!

They issued this statement: "We acknowledged most viewers would understand the posters reflected the content of an action film. However, we considered that because the ads featured a glamorous actress, action poses, several images of, or related to guns and aspirational text, they could be seen to glamorize the use of guns and violence."

The studio said the images "were highly stylized and in keeping with the comic-book-based nature of the flick." That being said, they still had no choice but to pull the posters out of circulation.

Please! Guns were not the reason why the posters were banned! Saint Angelina's holy image is too much to take. Cars crashed into things! Trains grinded to a halt! Men went into convulsions in the streets. Schoolchildren missed class, because they were spending their days kneeling on the sidewalk, worshipping her image. It was a distraction.

And you know the head bitch of the ASA will disappear in a cloud of white smoke!

Although she has also said that if you were to take her family (brother,father and herself) and sit down with a therapist ... the therapist would find her father to be nuts! I'm sorry, but when you cut yourself to feel alive then it's time to sit and talk to a psychiatrist. She has never resolved any of those underlying issues. Now she'll just transfer her pain and unhappiness onto her 6 children.Plus she was hooked on heroin and never sought rehab or help with that either. What a winner. Makes me glad to be British. The ASA bans things with very few complaints working on the basis that people have to be pretty angry to bother and for every complaint there will be a many more who are unhappy. I had an ad for ‘Hannibal’ withdrawn from TV before 9pm (the children’s watershed here)and only 5 of us complained. I still have the letter, I was quite proud.
As for ol’ Skanky and guns. Well, the cunt had a gun necklace from her first bought child for mother’s day. He’s been orphaned by war. I think not. Whether Angie likes it or not, these characters and their actions will always be thought of in light of her personal life - including the humanitarian work that she uses to publicise these same movies. If the problem were not abundantly clear some time ago, it should be by now.

I have a few thoughts on this.

Firstly : is this movie *still* not out yet? Have they been holding back until Angie is fit enough to go on the publicity trail?

Secondly, although I may not agree with the censorship, I do agree with the Authority's sentiments here.

At one point, I liked Angie. Her movies aren't great, but I thought of them as fun popcorn flicks. I'm afraid that I now take a more cynical take on the her works.

It is without question that many of her films glorify violence, and especially gun violence. Many of my favourite films, books, music and video games are incredibly violent, but the violence is always within a context. Angie's violence on the other hand looks like soft core pornography, and the gun play serves as mere titillation.

This is not to my taste, although it may have its place in the arts. Few would deny the ties between sex and aggression, although I can't help but see this lust for firepower as being a perversion. Am I prudish? Hopefully not, although I am receptive to the idea.

Let's keep this idea in the back of our minds and try to think of the wider context in which these films are released. We have acknowledged that dumb violence may have its place when framed in a shallow context, although is it possible to present these movies in a vacuum?
