Um, I was actually looking forward to having a semi-intelligent conversation about all this business considering how many of you relly did know what they were talking about the last time this issue was discussed, but I'm disappointed that some people have resorted to calling a 17-year old CHILD a whore, slut, etc. etc. Call the mother what you will, because she's the one who's unqualified and hypocritical, not her child. And for everyone who keeps lauding this family for "being brave enough to keep the child", keep in mind that they despite being so anti-choice had made "the choice to keep the baby", which implies that they did consider abortion (inspite of SP's stance on the issue). Also, they're a priviliged family, and I'm sure if it were, say, a hispanic, african-american, or minority woman, she would have been bashed for being irresponsible from now till Kingdom comes. The hypocrisy just sickens me but lets not get down to Karl Rove's level where we need to hurl insults at a teenager.

I haven't really stated any of my political views anywhere in this thread, so I'm not sure how you got that my views are "alarming". I'm much more interested in the way people react to the political game than to the politics themselves, and there is so much hypocrisy on both sides that it is almost mind blowing.

I'm neither Democrat nor Republican, I'm a registered member of the Green party but I am switching to Libertarian. It's not "disturbing" that I think all politicians are fucking full of shit and that the whole way we elect leaders and the bullshit that comes along with campaigning is destroying this country and needs to be totally revamped. The red versus blue shit is what is ruining us....AS BOTH SIDES have become a parody of themselves and I don't believe ANY of the candidates truly believe in the things that they now HAVE to say they believe in due to the polarization of the parties.

Your political views seem to me slightly alarming for a young woman. The Republican candidates want to actively take away women's rights and options. Palin wants to have Creationism taught in schools as a legitimate "science" when our schools are already lagging behind the rest of the world's education. That alone makes a pretty clear distinction for me as far as my allegiance. I wouldn't even have to factor in the million other reasons why I lean the way I do politically. And I would say appreciating Barack's intelligence, empathy, and charisma is not really "fawning" over him.

Well A) he most likely will never have a pregnant teenaged daughter because both he and his wife value higher education and women's rights to pursue their own goals, and B) he's NOT a hillbilly like the Palins. He believes in personal choice for women, is a self-made man through great personal discipline, is educated on the dynamics and happenings of the world, and married a smart, educated woman with these same values.
