Who's Going To Play Bristol Palin?
So guess what? Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has announced that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is knocked up! This is too fucking perfect. Bristol is 5-months pregnant.
Dear Lifetime, you have found your next movie! Let's see, Jamie Lynn Spears can play Bristol, for obvious reasons. I mean, she's already done research on the role. Tina Fey and Megan Mullaly are too good to play Sarah. I know, Patricia Heaton's evil ass can play her. She would be perfect.
Anyhypocritey, this exciting news continues on from the rumor I posted about yesterday, which was that Sarah faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth to a boy named Trig Paxton Van Palin. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol's child and that Sarah was his memaw.
Sarah made the announcement today about her daughter being with child to shoot down rumors that she faked her own pregnancy to hide the family shame known as Bristol. So Bristol couldn't have been pregnant with 4-month-old Trig, because she was too busy being pregnant with her own kid. Bristol's got an alibi! I think we found a co-author for Lynne Spears' next book on parenting.
Sarah issued a statement and said that Bristol is planning on keeping the child and marrying the wonderful father, Levi. Sarah goes on to say “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows that she has our unconditional love and support. Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family." The Palin family has also asked for privacy during this time. Yeah, good fucking luck with that. And do you blame Bristol? Where else is there to do in Alaska besides make babies and skin trout?
I just can't wait to see what other scandals the Republicans may bring. Who knows, maybe Sarah is the one who is knocked up and Bristol is just returning the favor. Expect to see Sarah's ass in mumus and leaky titties. Or maybe McCain will announce he's a hermie. Or Cindy McCain will give birth to a pharmacist (yeah right, in her Vicodin dreams). Let me tell you, the possibilities on this are endless.

And I totally agree with you, too - I think we should place value on our careers - our contributions to society at large too. I just feel like we're expected to accomplish so much so quickly and at the expense of having richer, fuller lives (by avoiding things like money stress and trickle down crisis).
I'm jealous you know how to make money;p- I can't seem to get over my loathing of it but, quite honestly, I do ok.
But I have taken major hits in order to have more time to be a mom, that's fersure. It's not as expensive as you might think when you're doing it for yourself but it's still a struggle to get people to understand when you're not as available as they'd like you to be...or when your accomplishments come more slowly...

O yeah ...and I don't mean to offend anyone either...or be offended. Sometimes I get...passionate. But I realize I don't even think I quoted the right people there. I TOTALLY GET YOU. I see no peeps on Saturdays - I avoid it all costs so that I can spend my day at home organizing the necessities and spending time with my cat, dog, and husband and catching up on the week in general.
Sunday's are complete days off. Before the gas crunch, it was breakfast at a locally owned restaurant (as opposed to a chain), nap for a couple hours, swim for an hour, and run errands for things we need - like pet food, coffee, milk, and today I bought a fan. Its a LUXURY when I can go out and shop for clothes. Its not that the money isn't there, its simply what's the point? I can't stand to be in a store for more than an hour - expect an antique store which is more like a museum where you can touch everything. I have my peccadillos (sic) -- jewelry, purses, and art books, but those are carefully thought out and planned purchases.
I jumped off the crazy train about 10 years ago. I have a job, its not a career, but I'm grateful for it. I'm in school part-time cuz I can't afford to go full-time. For the first time in my adult life I live in a house big enough to hear an echo - it came as an inexpensive offer from a friend in need. Both cars are old and paid for. Take the occassional trip now and then (haven't been to Europe in 20 years, tho!), debt is low and its cash as we go. I volunteer for an arts group in town and our major event is in November (Day of the Dead parade). I do other service work, but that's pretty much a secret to everyone - including my husband. My mottos are "One Day at a Time" and "Keep it Simple."
I consider the things I have to be great luxuries. Some people I've known have sneered at my lifestyle and what I have/don't have because they THINK they have so much more. I know that's about them, not me.

I was not entirely talking about myself personally. My husband and I are very comfortable financially. My husband is about as confident a person as anyone could be and would never feel the need to compete with anyone. As for me personally, if I had been born prior to the feminist movement, I think I would have been very content with my writing, the house, and volunteer work. But I think that for those of us born post-feminism - and again, this is only my opinion! - we now are subject to a man's definition of success, which is career success. That has been my only demon. While I make very good money and can easily support myself, it is not necessarily what makes me happy. Yet I am constantly striving for more and more financial success. In modern society when women meet one another, the first question is often, "What do you do (for a living)?" It is my humble opinion that society has brought about these changes and that we are most valued for these type of successes, the type that bring us money and, perhaps fame on a small scale. I think society worships this. It is only natural, then, that some part of us should strive for these successes, to be deemed worthy by society's standards. Again, only my opinion!
