She Played The Flute?!
John McCain has just chosen some chick named Sarah Palin as his running mate. She's the governor of Alaska or something like that. I don't know her deal. I think she's anti-anything fun. But that's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about her beauty pageant past!
Sarah was Miss Wasilla 1984. She won second place in the Miss Alaska contest, but was voted Miss Congeniality. Miss Congeniality basically means you're homely but you smile a lot. Sarah played the flute during the talent portion. THE FLUTE?! It's Alaska! Shouldn't she have skinned a trout or danced with a grizzly bear? No wonder she lost. I did a quick search on YouTube, but couldn't find shit from the pageant. I'm sure shit will come up in the next few days.
And and I thought Heidi Montag was locked as McCain's VP?

Geraldine Ferraro was vp choice for Pres. candidate Mondale against Reagan/Bush. So, she's not the first!
It's good a woman was picked for VP for once, but too bad I don't like her views. Plus, she doesn't seem capable of the job.

she makes Quayle look like FDR.

Exhibit A on why I am voting for Obama.
I am really pissed about this choice...he obviously thinks that women are brainless sycophants who will vote for ANY woman.
McCain just proved to me why he cannot be president by this choice. This woman supported Pat Buchannan for President in 2000. Card Carrying NRA member and no experience. He has certainly lost it.

Ladies, ladies! This lucidity is SUCH a buzzkill. I was slightly for McCain when he was being a maverick, but if he's going to toe the party line, I have no use for him.
McCain used to be one of the Republicans I actually semi-respected back when he was a bit of a maverick. Then he started to not only toe the party line, but to bend over for certain groups. The thing that galled me the most was when started trying to curry the favor of evangelical groups. Years before he'd labeled Jerry Falwell and Pat Roberston "agents of intolerance". At that point I washed my hands of him.
Then I heard he's now attending a Baptist Church! He was raised an Episcopalian (we went to the same prep school in VA). Total downgrade, dumbass.

I'm just wondering why, if people believe the president has no power to change anything for the better, why there is so muchanimosity to the thought of Obama as president. Again....why is so bad to hope for a better country and to hope for a president who cares?
You know why Obama is so "worshipped"? Because while many want to stay in status quo of shittiness and are afraid to do anything different, some people actually want to try and make positive change for this country. Maybe it's a hard battle but we want to try, we want to have a better future!
As for Obama not picking Clinton, something about Hilary screams backstabber and skeeze. She had her mment. She was not chosen. She acted the bitch when she realized she wasn't winning. You could keep your enemies closer than your friends butVP would be a bit too close for comfort!

If McCain dies in office we will have Bimbo Bush. There must have been more worthy women to chose from, then he would have my vote, he is a fogie you know and his wife once was a young thing until he got her.
This whole thread is why I hate politics. Everyone loses their fucking minds. Both sides suck, lets face it. People want Obama because a)they hate all Republicans, which isn't fair considering there are plenty who aren't bible thumping crazies. b)they think Obama is going to be different than other Presidents. Why? There are so many people who look at Obama and see him as the savior because he's charming and he looks different than all our other presidents. You know what I'm talking about. But do you really think if he gets the WH he's not going to have to pander to special interests? Of course he is if he wants to actually get anything accomplished. That's why I scoff at this notion of "change". Its a little creepy, no, a LOT creepy, how worshipped this guy is and he hasn't even done anything yet. And I'm not talking about his experience or lack thereof.
McCain people are no better. Sorry, but an anti-reproductive rights, oil drilling in the Alaskan wild, gun-toting ticket doesn't exactly give me the screaming thigh sweats. McCain is hoping Palin will pull in the Hillary people because yes, there are plenty who will vote for a woman simply because she's a woman, just like there are plenty who will vote for Obama simply because he's black. Its such an obvious manipulation its incredible.
I just read a post bitching about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't blame anyone having a problem with Iraq, but we went into Afghanistan because they harbored the people who orchestrated 9/11. Would you have rather we just sat down and talked with them? Held hands? Sorry, I can't get on board with that. Those people aren't interested in talking. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, that's clear, so there isn't a good reason to be there at all. So have a problem with Iraq if you want, but as much as GWB wants to lump the two together, they're completely separate. One is in response to a terrible tragedy, the other is for purely selfish, agenda driven reasons.
Sorry for the rant, truly. I love this site BTW.
While I am glad there is a woman and an African American in this years race, I believe that the Republicans have conceded the race with a throw away for a veep. What would happen if McCain got ill or worse while in office? If he was really trying to get something other than the Alaska oil drilling, he would have picked a woman like Kay Bailey Hutchinson for a stronger showing at the Nov. race.
Makes my little liberal heart pound that we are getting representatives of women on the big ticket. we couldn't even pass the ERA...
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution intended to guarantee equal rights under the law for Americans regardless of sex, which failed to gain ratification before the end of the deadline. In the intervening years, public attention to the ERA has greatly diminished, though the proposal has been reintroduced in every Congress since 1982.

“Women don’t like you at all. And men don’t like you enough to make up for it.”
I honestly think that McCain's pick is a wash. I think it is going to pull in some people and turn away about the same amount of people. It was clearly a ploy, anyway you look at it, which, considering it's importance for the reasons you have stated (what if something happens to the President) is unsettling, imo.
It was done to lure women and to take the steam away from the aftermath of Obama's convention speech the night before.
As far as being a good candidate to take over as president should something happen? C'mon, clearly not, by a long shot.
As a side note, this is the first election in a long time that I haven't been excited and steadfastly behind one candidate. I have never found myself crazy over any of them.
McCain doesn't care about the stuffed shirt Republican vote. Those folk are not going to vote for Obama. So they either vote for him or they don't vote. McCain is trying to pull those Democrats who wanted to vote for Hilary and will not vote for Obama....and younger liberal Republicans.
I have to give him props for such a smart and blatant move, yet very unexpected. In hindsight though, it can definitely push him over the edge to win, in a legitimate way. Token female indeed...
the only question you have to ask now is if the President dies, who do you want running the country. Obama is at high risk of being assassinated...and McCain is not young.....

I know I am a little behind on all this. Too much going on, even besides the kids being back to school this past week.
I've been trying to get a feel, so to speak, for this woman and doing some research on her. I gotta tell you that I got stopped dead in my tracks and, I know it sounds awful, but I cannot vote for anyone who names her kids Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper & Trig.
I'm sorry, I know that's a stupid reason, but there just must be something off about her.
I also think it's insulting to women to think this will rally women to McCain, like all that matters to women is what sex someone is. IMO, this could really turn off the stuffed shirt republican men and their wives who think women belong at home, particularly ones that have 5 children, the youngest being a baby with down's syndrome.
Oh and, btw, it's also an insult to poor Tina Fey, who everyone seems to think this woman looks just like.
I'm impressed with McCain having such a progressive and liberal mindset to pick a female running mate...
that is what I'm supposed to be, right?
LOL I like the history of this election and how diverse it is, though. We needed change!

Not to mention, willing to abuse her office to get back at someone who hurt her family. It's amazing that she made a speech celebrating womens' right to vote, given her own opinion on womens' rights - namely that we should roll over and let a bunch of smarmy old men decide what happens in our womb.

A lot people talk about Obama not having any experience. Experience. Who on this planet has first hand experience "leading" the United States of America in the 21st century? Who has had EIGHT years of experience in the White House? A beady-eyed fool, that's who. No, Dumbya can't run again, thank heaven, but he has EXPERIENCE! Would anyone want to put his experience ahead of a turn in the right direction? What EXPERIENCE has McCain had running a country? None. Zip. Zero. Besides, he'll probably kick the bucket soon and then we can all hear about how Marcy Darcy has all the experience and expertise necessary to run this country. God help us.

Wow! It's a damn shame when the republican machine starts paying bloggers now to hit up gossip sites with how great this news is.
This is B-I-Bicky BULLSHIT!!! For one, anyone who says this is great news, is a moron. You are posting on a blog cleverly helmed by a homosexual. This woman who you endorse is against gay rights--specifically marriage.
It doesnt matter if the candidate for VP is a woman, man, or a dog. MCcain has the same agenda as Bush which means more war, less energy efficience and even less benefits for the gradually diminishing middle class and the poor.
Anybody who lets the gender of the VP be a deciding factor in their vote needs their voting rights repossesed. Remember people, there are far more issues at hand then whether the president or VP menstruates. I am hoping you people arent that blind or stupid.

PEOPLE SERIOUSLY ALL OPTION BLOW. OBAMA SUCKS BALLS. NO EXPERIENCE, GET THE FUCK UP AND REALIZE THE PEOPLE HE SURROUNDED HIMSELF W PRE PRESIDENTIAL RUN. He didnt know his pastor said that shit?? His wife wasn't proud to be an American until she achieved a position of fame and power???? ALL OF THEM DEMS AND REPUBS ARE LOADED!!! Its the only way you can run for office anymore. MCCAIN SUCKS BALLS!!!! He backed off his issues to get his party and followers to back him.And its obvious a token play black man versus women on his part. And fuck this bitch anti choice automatically does me in.... Look past the war look past the oil. WE NEED SOMEONE MODERATE!!! All a party system stands for is to divide and conquer....we should have an option of at least 5 people...no party lines just presenting them and their beliefs and priorities and vote for who is closest to you...I know very few people who are total left or total right. Im against social funding for lazy fucks but do think the elderly and disabled deserve care Im pro choice and agnostic on an optimistic day.....come on we need a whole redo. There has GOT TO BE better options from each party than these two douche bags........
Rant over....resume your bashing
Ride the spiral to the end you may just go where no ones been
ugh, I briefly played the flute but hated it so much I stopped. it seems to me like he just picked her cuz he thought he was unique picking a woman from Alaska that has a kid with Down Syndrome
This is a sad turn for women in politics.
I guess McCain will do ANYTHING just to be in office. He purposely picked a woman for no other reason, but couldn't he find a better one? Come on, aren't we a teensy bit smarter than that? This is pathetic. It's a comedy. I'm happy with his choice. McCain just ruined his chance because this will go down in history as the most ridiculous campaigning duo ever. We're voting for the party, people. You want the same administration back? There's an IQ test.
This is a great year for women in politics.
But, for some reason, Hillary went over like a lead balloon.
Palin rocks and alaska is behind her 100% it;s time for a real canidate who gets what it's like to be one of us !!!!!!
As an Alaskan I think she kicks ass...she has worked miracles in our state for only being a governor for a year and a half. Some retard in an earlier comment said she's about to get impeached...you should know the facts before you open your fat trap. She was indeed asking her brother-in-law to be kicked of the Alaska State Troopers, because the brother-in-law had assaulted his wife, threatened the Palin family, AND used a stun gun on a child!!!!! If I was governor I would do everything in my power to kick that turd to the curb too, but the boys in blue up here stick together and let that putz keep his job and than sealed the file from the public as to why he should keep his job...oh yea, lets not forget that the brother-in-law ALSO was caught drinking in his cruiser while on duty...so yea...we think she's great up here, but really don't understand why McCain picked her..cuz we'll miss her if she's elected. Oh yea, she has an 86% approval rate up here Hooah
And she has a lot of free time coming up, since she's about to be impeached as Governor.

In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn’t seem “productive.”
In fact, she said she doesn’t know what the vice president does.
Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain ticket mate.
Palin replied: “[A]s for that V.P. talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that V.P .slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question.”

So one month later the woman is ready to accept the position? Hummppfff! Beotch, please.
