Ageism is a topic that has plagued Madonna for years, when her career started, it was okay because she was in her 20's. But in her 30's people still were at her with "why are you still singing about sex", and she always and in my opinion correctly answered, that no matter what your age, your entitled to express sexual feelings - "sex" isnt something that belongs to the young and attractive solely. Now that shes close to the sunset of her youth is it?, I think mentally she has equated "muscles" with youth, especially because at any age being muscular is difficult, now take into consideration her age and that she is a woman, whom naturally have a more difficult time becoming musclar, and there is a real bodily achievement. I live in NYC, a very VAIN city, where even at my gym I have seen elderly people, running lifting weights, etc. - and yet I have yet to see anyone such as Madonna, being mid-old, and having an unbelievably tight and ripped body. Theres some ladies whom have a regular body , and are slim, but nothing as intense or work requiring as Madonnas body. Though she would benefit from gaining some pounds to make her less boney, but its HER body, if thats how she wants it then so be it. I think Madonna has a few years left in her, she still can put on a great concert so I've heard. So why not give her fans what they want, especially since they know what she looks like and still want to see her, its for them these outfits are meant for, the people who pay her tickets.
And to just comment on what someone said earlier that people will just "buy" anything the media throws at them, I TOTALLY DISAGREE. Every year, companies, recording and film, promote countless of singers and actors through the media that they are the next big thing. However, very very few if any at all actually become famous. Take jessica simpson for example, the media has pushed her for years and years and years, and all her cd's have done worse and worse, shes a beautiful girl, has a nice voice, and yet no one ever took to her. Or if anyone knows deborah cox, years ago she sung "nobodys suppose to be here", beautiful girl, beautiful voice, great hit song, went nowhere. Those two are just 2 of millions of people in the music and film industry whom have had full promotional backing from companies to make them famous, but simply the media didnt WANT to make them famous. Jessica Simpson granted had a little bit of fame, but that was on reality tv, and it was only because people laughed at her not with her. Even at her most famous, on the show, her cds still underperformed. People like Madonna and Britney are people whom were destined to be famous. Through thick and thin, the media has covered them, because people want to know about them. For alot of people its hard to swallow the concept that SOME people were meant to be famous, because then its a self analysis of then "why not me". Some people may claim they would never want to trade shoes with so and so, or they would never want to be famous, but it is my opinion that that is not always entirely true. I have seen many a person whom although claims "I'd never want to be famous" and "i hate attention whores", yet in their own personal lives try to in a smaller scale be stars or at least garner attention like the same people whom they put down, whether at work, home the internet, etc.
