Throw The Book At Her!
20-year-old Heidi Dalibor of Grafton, Wisconsin was arrested earlier this month over a couple of library books. No, she didn't stick them in her cooter in the middle of the library. She just forgot to turn them in before their due date.
Two cops came to Heidi's door and arrested her for not paying her overdue library fees, ignoring numerous phone calls and not showing up to court. They handcuffed her, took her down to the station and then fingerprinted and photographed her.
Isn't it a lovely mug shot? She looks so happy! She's probably thinking, "I better try and look cheer for this shit, because I know this is going to end up on The Smoking Gun."
Heidi's mother had to pay $172 to get her out of jail. Heidi also had to pay $30 for the two overdue paperbacks.
So what two books did Heidi go to jail for? Heidi checked out Janet Finch's "White Oleander" and Dan Brown's "Angels & Demons." Embarrassing! Although, if that was me, it would have been over a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book and "Dazzle" by Judith Krantz.
And books are dangerous! This is why I don't read books that often, because they get you into trouble!

Grafton is a really small town outside of Milwaukee. Somehow I'm not surprised the police are involved, especially if the public library has issues with funding to replace unreturned books or rely on fines as a lot of their money.

I had a ticket for tabs expiring...$50 damn dollars, so I've ignored it for several months (in 22 yrs of owning a vehicle I've never forgot the tabs but somehow this year I did). Well now it's up to $250 and I'm sure going to collections and on my credit report. I thought that maybe I could go to jail (kind of a vaca as I have 4 kids) and how long would I really spend in there, seeing how hollywood gets out within minutes...no such luck I guess
I'm sure the people of Grafton feel safer already.

Man, if you have to be arrested for overdue books, can't you at least be arrested for having "Pale Fire" or Vampire Hunter D or something COOL?
That said, those police officers need hobbies. Obviously they have too much time on their hands -- and I betcha they have some fines of their own!

O yeah - it's all fun and games now but she'd have a hard time getting into, say, Canada now considering our new laws for people with "criminal records".
PS. As far as I know - here, if you straight-up dump those books in a dumpster, and then lay low for a few months you can get a new card for a dollar!
