E.T. needs to help a fellow alien out if this story is true! According to RiRi's ex-business manager, the Alien Princess only has $20,000 to her name! Damn. Looks like she's going to have to trade in her fancy ass beach vacations for a day trip to Raging Waters.
Patricia Williams, RiRi's supposed ex-business manager, was let go recently when RiRi and her management found out she was going broke. RiRi immediately accused Patricia of stealing from her. Patricia said, "It’s not my fault that she only has $20,000 to her name. I showed her all the paperwork and tried to explain to her the circumstances but she wouldn’t listen. She called me all sorts of horrible names and stormed off. I now feel compelled to share with the world the background story as I will not allow my name to be slandered."
Patricia went on to explain that Def Jam doesn't "fund Rihanna properly," so all the money she makes from endorsements and tours is used to pay for her albums and music videos. Patricia claims RiRi made around $1 million last year and all of it was spent making her music videos.

Hence independent musicians. When you sign a deal with a major label they give you an advance but all your costs are recoupable by them out of that advance. This includes videos, wardrobe, tour buses ,travel expense, etc. I would also guess that since the recording industry is in such bad shape that they really stick it to people and itemize everything down to the McDonalds so to speak. Jay Z wouldn't pay some wait staff so what the hell would possess everyone to think he would get her paid. So she is just dumb on top of tone deaf and signed a crappy contract. This happens a lot.
Remember TLC??? It seems like on top of that she spends like a spazz which probably drained any endorsement money she had made.

The music business doesn't pay for most artists, so I wouldn't be surprised. You pretty much have to have your hand in everything and your name on everything to make money. The producers, song writers, video directors and everybody else is gonna get pad before the performer does.

This kind of thing happens to a lot of artists..they are living large and island hopping on expensive private cruises...before they know it...they are broke as hell..you should have been right there managing your money and making sure you know where it was going...RiRi..she might was well have financed her own career from scratch with a loan from her local bank..
As others have said, always try to get a songwriting credit, even if, like Brits, your only contribution was a "uh huh." The thing with entertainers is (1) they have so many people taking a cut of the pie but (2) they ain't real sophisticated or involved and often leave all the details to their handlers. So they're primed to get ripped off or to spend foolishly without an accurate sense of income and expenses.

Also TLC sold way more than Rhinna and they were broke. The structure of the contracts is what most important when coming into any industry. The get caught up with the smoke and mirrors and not read the bottom line and the end is their own fault.
