R.I.P. Sandy Allen
Sandy Allen, the world's tallest woman, passed away this morning at the age of 53. Sandy's cause of death is unknown. A family friend said that she was recently hospitalized for a blood infection, breathing trouble and kidney failure. She died at a nursing home in Shelbyville, Indiana.
Guinness World Records confirmed that Sandy is still listed as the world's tallest woman at 7'7". Supposedly there's a woman in China who is 7'9" but that hasn't been confirmed.
Sandy was always proud of her height and used it to teach school kids that it's okay to be different. Sandy also had a huge sense of humor. In the 1980s she was a regular at the Guinness World Records Museum in Toronto. She said, "I'll never forget the old Japanese man who couldn't speak English, so he decided to feel for himself if I was real."
Rest in peace, Sandy Allen! You will be missed.

such a bummer. she was alot younger than i thought. i remember looking at her picture in guiness back in grade school, wearing a t-shirt that said "how'd you get so short?" lol.
i once dated a guy who was 7ft tall. he was hot but that was just more than my 5'5" self could handle. i never got past minor league spit swapping because standing on a step was too bizarre and the horizontal mambo scared the bejesus outta me.

I always enjoyed the updates on what Sandy Allen was doing. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons! Sandy used to go to schools and give talks about what it was like to be so tall, and different, and that it hurts to be made fun of when you're different, so don't do it. She made a positive difference in the world unlike so many in the public spotlight.
You'll be missed, Sandy!

Awwwww. So sad. I used to enjoy seeing her on television. She really did have a fantastic (and a bit skewed) sense of humor - which is why I think I enjoyed her so much.
53 is quite young, but I have heard that folks who are "genetic giants" often die young. So long, Sandy! You did make a difference!

I just saw a special on her the other day. Despite the tough life she'd lead she came across as very kind, funny and not at all bitter about her hardships. RIP.
Every interview you saw her do, she was really positive and uplifting...
