R.I.P. Sandy Allen
Sandy Allen, the world's tallest woman, passed away this morning at the age of 53. Sandy's cause of death is unknown. A family friend said that she was recently hospitalized for a blood infection, breathing trouble and kidney failure. She died at a nursing home in Shelbyville, Indiana.
Guinness World Records confirmed that Sandy is still listed as the world's tallest woman at 7'7". Supposedly there's a woman in China who is 7'9" but that hasn't been confirmed.
Sandy was always proud of her height and used it to teach school kids that it's okay to be different. Sandy also had a huge sense of humor. In the 1980s she was a regular at the Guinness World Records Museum in Toronto. She said, "I'll never forget the old Japanese man who couldn't speak English, so he decided to feel for himself if I was real."
Rest in peace, Sandy Allen! You will be missed.

I saw her when I was about 8 years old. She worked in the City County building in Indianapolis which at the time was the tallest building in Indiana (coincidence I don't know). My 3rd grade class went on a tour of the building and she wasn't part of the tour. We walked passed her work area and all I remembered was her desk was extra high and her head was damn near touching the ceiling. We were all in a line and I stopped and backed everybody else up behind me gawking and pointing. My parents always taught me not to point out other peoples differences but I think that all went out the door when I saw her. She waved at us and smiled as the tour guide and our teacher pushed us all pass the door way.

I met Sandy Allen in Niagara Falls at the Guiness World Records museum! We waited for her in a room, then a big garage-like door opened from the ground up, slowly revealing Sandy and her astonishing height. She was very cool about letting everyone stare at her and ask questions etc. RIP.
I saw Sandy on a talk show years ago and my first thought was that she was a lovely, grounded human being. RIP Sandy, you gave more than you took.
MK I say Sandy for hot bitch of the month!!!
I just bitch slapped my unconcious, for interrrupting my moment of quiet sympathy, by whispering - 'Michael Phelps in drag.'
Cute mom and adorable babe. I saw her profile on milllionaire personals site """"""C e l e b C u p i d.c o m""""" last month. What kind of relationship is she looking for on that site?
Sadness. RIP Sandy.
7 feet 7 inches tall?
She must have been HUNG!
I remember her picture in my 7th grade science book.
I never heard of her, but what a great person.

Sad. Despite knowing life will be difficult, they have enough love & compassion to share with others. That's what makes them special.

Yes! Born and raised in the boondocks of southern IN. I escaped to NYC a couple of years ago and am forever trying to correct peoples' notions about the Midwest... but those damn hammer fuckers and BK bathers make it much more difficult!
We were pretty close to Shelbyville so Sandy came to our school once every few years... everyone loved her. She really made a difference in a lot of lives, and whoever said talk about making lemonade from lemons had it right. Makes me mad when I see people who have been given everything and are squandering it...
Aw, a gentle giant(ess)...Sadness.

Sorry, Roger, you are tiger now...
Anyways, I must agree with whoever said it's not fair that Parasite Hilton is still alive and this woman is not. Someone who puts smiles on faces and does good within their community deserves SO much more recognition, fame, and respect than loose vagina-ed, loud, obnoxious whores do. RIP Sandy!!

She was such a kind woman. I'm glad to see someone from Indiana doing some good for once... seems like we're mainly known for hammer fuckers and Dan Quayle!

I RESENT THAT! xD
Wait, are you a proud Hoos-whore too???

Hi5.
Rest in peace, Sandy. I enjoyed her skewed sense of humor, and now God will enjoy it as well.

p.s. RIP, dear lady.
She probably died of an over-taxed heart like most people with acromegaly.
See a cardiologist now, Tony Robbins.
She dies and yet Paris Hilton lives. Depressing.
She always had a smile on her face. Sadness. RIP, sweet Sandy.

I am also hoping this is the last of the "3"...

I watched her on a show on National Geographic. She had a great attitude about her height and a positive outlook on life. She's the perfect example of someone who was comfortable in her skin and didn't feel the need to apologize for anything. She was a great lady.
Robert Wadlow, who reached a height of 8 feet, 11.1 inches, was only 22 when he died of complications from a foot infection. He was still growing even at the time of his death. As others have said, big people don't tend to live so long. I never heard of this lady but RIP.
Too bad that most of the footage on that video clip was of the kids and the teacher (?) who announced her, and she only showed up for the last couple of seconds.

I heart Sandy Allen and this greatly saddened me. I first saw this lovely woman on a talk show in the late 80's or early 90's (I believe it was Sally Jesse Raphael), and boy did she make quite an impression. Another guest on that show was a little boy with progeria (who was apparently in a movie, playing an alien unfortunately, as they played clips on the talk show I watched) and Sandy Allen could not have been warmer, funnier, or kinder with him. Meeting her really did seem to lift him up and it touched me enough that I remember it 20 years later (and I'm not very old). The other times I have come across her or her work I have always been impressed. What a great lady. Rest in Peace, Sandy.

People with gigantism typically have shorter than average life spans. Death is usually a result of heart complications due to the fact of having to maintain very large amounts of circulation of blood.
Great book, BTW. The Giant's House by Elizabeth McCracken.

She was always so happy and kind when stories were done on her. It's sad that's she's gone so young, but she seemed to have lived a full, happy life, considering her condition.
R.I.P. Sandy
PS. We have been saying R.I.P. far too often lately.
BFD - she had gigantism. Not like she was genetically that tall.
Aw, man. Sandy was awesome.
RIP Sandy!

Yes, the tallest woman in the world is Chinese. Her name is Yao Defen. She's 7'9" due to rare condition called Gigantism. It's caused by disease called acromegaly.
A kind woman who had a wonderful sense of humor.
May she rest in peace.
