Billy Bob Thornton As Freddy Krueger?!
One...two....Billy Bob's coming for you. No. That doesn't have a nice ring to it. Michael Bay is currently working on butchering the classic "Nightmare on Elm Street," and apparently he's signed Billy Bob Thornton to play Freddy Krueger. Billy Bob would make a better Crypt Keeper instead.
What is wrong with Robert Englund? You can't make a "Nightmare" movie without Robert. He IS fucking Freddy. You basically just need him and Heather Langenkamp! Those bitches aren't doing anything. Although, I would rather Heather reprise her role as Marie in the TV remake of "Just the Ten of Us." But that's just me.
I mean, Billy Bob?! I guess he sort of makes sense since his face makes kids eat their own hair, but he's no Robert Englund!

The Shinning with Jack Nicholson is one of the BEST movies ever. Bars none my favorite movie. However, King hated that version and wanted to do another one, thus the TV one (which sucked balls -- regardless of what King believed).

Well, he keeps on making money on these craptastic films as they are made for 15 year old boys -- make that 12 year old boys.
He singlehandedly bought rights to remake The Birds, Friday the 13th, Amytiville Horror, The Hitcher and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (I was wrong about Escape from NY that is another asshole). I must say it takes a lot of ego to think you can remake all of the above classics and well. I just heard him stating that Friday the 13th was going to be funnier than the original.... The Stand deserved better actors, too. I don't think SK really got the A-listers until after Misery. And I am so sorry, but Molly Ringwald can't act her way out of a wet paper bag, and never should have been given such a pivotal role in The Stand.

Isn't it weird how a lot of the Stephen King books and stories just don't translate as well on screen? He had an awesome run in the 80s, but any of the 90s and made for TV ones were so disappointing. The Stand, anyone?
-------------------------
I think it's because his characters and situations are often way too involved for a 2-hour film. The Stand was a big disappointment, but how do you adapt a 1500-page novel about the Apocalypse into a 4 to 6-hour miniseries on television? Whose bright idea was that?
"It" was actually pretty good, but, of course, it included some good talent and seemed to translate to the film medium better.
Salem's Lot was also quite scary for television, but of course that was back in the late 70's/early 80's.
Carrie, Shawshank Redemption, Misery, The Dead Zone, The Shining, Salem's Lot, The Green Mile were all good...and even that film which shall go unnamed gets a gold star for the scariness factor, although it lacked in character/plot development.

OnT.. I only asked about The Mist because the main character is a movie poster artist, and he's working on a poster when the shit jumps off... and it's a poster of THE DARK TOWER. If that becomes a movie (or 7 rather) I will pee myself.

But it was allegedly closer to the book than the movie was just like the remake of "The Haunting" was supposed to be.

ITA. the remake of The Shining sucked ass. Some characters are just indispensible, Jack Torrance needed to be played by Jack Nicholson, and Pennywise needed to be done by Tim Curry. No other actors will bring to the characters what they did.
----------------------------
There's actually one remake of a Stephen King book/film I'd like to see, but I won't mention the name here because I'm not giving Bay ANY ideas. Here's a hint, though: a Munster was in the original film.
The remake of the Shining DID suck ass, but that's because SK had a lot of direction control there and when it comes to SK directing, he shouldn't quit his day job. He just wanted it remade because Kubrick pissed him off by wandering away from the story at times.
