After The Brawl
Nikki Blonsky and Bianca from "America's Next Top Model" were arrested last week for their part in a brawl that took place at an airport in Turks & Caicos. Nikki's dad is still in jail for allegedly beating down Bianca's mom, Elaine Golden. Elaine is still in the intensive care unit of a Miami hospital recovering from a broken nose and cracked skull.
Bianca's family told The New York Post their side of the story. They said it all started when Bianca's family asked the Blonsky family to move some of their luggage off of an airport chair, so that one of them could sit. The Blonsky family moved their shit, so that the the woman holding a child could sit, but they weren't happy about it. The Blonksly family reportedly started talking a lot of shit and even threw in the N-word a few times. Did Nikki not learn anything from "Hairspray"? Another source claims Bianca's family started the racial shit when one of them said, "I don't want to sit next to any white bitch."
The arguing became physical when Bianca and Nikki started exchanging words. Bianca's family member said the two chicks never fought each other, but Nikki did try and rip off Bianca's earring. She was hungry! After that, they all started brawling. You can't stop the beat down!
Unfortunately, there isn't any video of the battle itself. Yet. But someone did post a video on YouTube of the aftermath. The woman narrating the video needs her own show! In case you can't watch the video, here's a few of the narrator's amazing quotes:
"This young lady here with the green shirt, she done decked a girl out - Tracy Turnblad. Poor girl over there devastated, she ain't dancing around today."
"Is that my airplane?! Is that my flight? Cause I gotta go!!!"
At one point during the video, Nikki's loud mouth mom comes around blabbering about something or another. Who cares about her! Rude! She's interrupting this lady's amazing commentary.

Oh, I wasn't saying the judge thing was ok!! But people are human, and if I'm not around Asians all the time and that makes it difficult for me to pick up on the cultural nuances in their diffirent looks, that doesn't make me a racist, it makes me human with flaws. Can YOU tell the difference in how Koreans, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese look? I sort of can, because my Korean dorm leader in college sat some of us down one time and tried to explain it. It gets complicated, but that doesn't mean I'm racist about it! I can't automatically tell someone is Chinese rather than Japanese, because A) I've never been to The East, and B) I'm not perfect!

Yeah - strangely, I had that convo with my daughter. She'd overheard someone saying they can't tell Asians apart...and she asked me 1. what's an Asian (haha! she used to say she could deal with Chinatown cuz everyone speaks French there) and 2. why not? Big sigh, give it a try, I thought.
I explained that people of one race often find it hard to see the differences in people of other races. I explained that it's mostly about experience. The more experiences they have with the other race, the easier it is to get past the basics. (like remember that time you were little and we were in the yard together and you called that brown woman walking by "mommy"? No? Well, I do you little bugger!)
I continued, sometimes people get riled if you try to call a Korean "chinese" or a Philipino "japanese"...because they are very different.

If you read what MK posted and saw the video you would know that the Bianca chick started the whole thing by calling Nikki a white bitch. They are now trying to spin the story to make it look like the Blonsky's called them the "N" word. The woman on the video, who is great btw, said that Bianca went over to Nikki and hit her in the head. Reverse racism isn't justified either.

Deb you are so right. In any situation, stereotyping or relying on generalizations is bad business. A few years back around here, a down and out (trashy looking) family won a sizeable lottery. They sashayed over to a car dealership and started to look at *very* expensive cars. They got the bum's rush from the salesman who didn't even inquire what they wanted. They went to a competitor, where they received good service and bought three brand new cars and paid cash. Nice commission for that salesman.

Oh and while we're telling stories, I worked for a federal judge on the US Court of Appeals. My judge is a big giant 6 foot plus, very light-skinned, clean shaven black man. Another judge on the same court is about 5'5", dark skinned, with a beard. God's honest truth, half the other judges on the court and the court staff confused them with each other on a regular basis. In all the years that they have both been on the court, countless numbers of people who work and interact with them every day never bothered to tell them apart but damned if they could not tell every white man with almost identical stats apart. They would call them each by the other person's name. And this is on the second highest court in the land. All they see is a black man. Those two judges were not deserving of enough respect to be distinguished from one another. Now that's some racist shit.

Because I like to go out to eat in relatively nice places by myself, I get the "Women Don't Tip,
Especially The Old Ones" servers frequently. These are people who do not know me or what I do for a living. I find THAT to be very frustrating ((but entertaining at the same time.))
Usually I request a manager and ask for another server if I get treated that way. Management will give you the nicest people on the floor to wait on you in these instances. And the new server usually gets rewarded handsomely.
What the "stereotypers" do not know is that I am in the restaurant business. I worked my way up into management. AND I am a very good tipper. Many a replacement server has walked away with a 100% tip from me.

Because last time I checked no one was hung by their necks from a tree with a bunch of dudes in white sheets standing around calling them "white bitch". The historical context is what makes it (arguably) the most heinous word in the English language. And honestly, every time I forget something forces me to remember. The other day I watched "mississippi burning" and i swear that movie makes me want to beat my husband's ass just for being white. Hell, he wanted to beat his OWN ass. He's Italian and has never lived in the US so he really has no concept of why this is all such a big deal but when he watches films like MB he understands a little bit and it makes him sick to think that someone could have done that to HIS children. This wasnt that long ago people. We are not 200 years away from slavery, jim crow and apartheid. Yes times have changed and progress has been made but in my opinion, not enough time has yet passed where we can claim that racism against whites and racism against blacks are on par. The vestiges of slavery and segregation are still very much with us.

The fact is, there are a lot of angry, bitter black people (sorry to generalize) and they may be angry for good reason. I do think reparations need to be made. I think America thinks it's so progressive with how we treat Jews. That seems to honestly be the only group of people where it is ABSOLUTELY not okay to not side with them in all arguments.
