Not Morgan Freeman!
FUCK! TMZ reports that 71-year-old Morgan Freeman was involved in a serious car accident in Mississippi late last night around 11:30. The one car accident happened near Ruleville, Miss.
Morgan was airlifted from the scene of the accident to a hospital in Memphis, TN. TMZ claims booze was not a factor in the accident.
What is going on with the cast of "The Dark Knight"? It's like there's a dark cloud around them. Hurry! Get Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman into the safe house!
Ugh. I just need Morgan to tell me in his velvety voice that everything is going to be okay.
UPDATE: A spokesperson for Regional Medical Center in Memphis told TMZ that Morgan is in serious condition. There was an unidentified woman in the car with him. Her condition is not known. State troopers said Morgan was talking when they arrived at the scene last night. They also said his car went off the shoulder of the road and flipped over.
UPDATE II: Morgan broke his arm and shoulder, but he's expected to make a "good" recovery. Thank God!

And seriously...how about that Dark Knight curse? First Heath dies, then Bale gets arrested, now Freeman in a car accident!! Stay inside Maggie Gyllenhall!

Morgan Freeman is such a dignified, intelligent, down to earth, cool man.
He was on 'The View' recently and one of the hosts was saying how much hard work it must be to perform in a broadway play (which he had been doing) 6 days a week and be an actor.
Morgan replied that it was not hard work, acting is not hard work. Digging ditches for a living is hard work.
They don't make them like Mr. Freeman anymore.
I hope he is ok :(
Any updates, yet?

I don't believe in getting a car note if your old car is fine and paid for. Maybe Morgan thinks that too...oh wait. Like he would ever need to have a car note! He can pay out of pocket! Anyways, TMZ is reporting his broke several ribs and injured his knee. That doesn't sound completely horrible...

I like him and he is a great actor, this is really sad. I hope he gets better.
My granddaddy still dives at 90. He still works, too.

Mine was doing that sort of thing. He drove so crazy. My mom and grandma kept praying he would get his license taken away but he was a high school teacher here and he kept getting cops and judges that were his former students. He hit a BUS! They still let him go!
Anyway -- poor Morgan. Who doesn't love him. I'm taking heart that they're saying "serious" and not "critical."
True dat, Clarisse & Stoney. I drive my cars until they die, but if I had a little extra dough to get the newer, safer, more efficient models, I'm there!
I'm curious as to why the passenger remains unnamed? Is she a minor?

There is some kind of dark cloud over the cast of that movie. Shout out to the original Easy Reader.

It will be a sad day if we lose Morgan Freeman to this. If he does pass away, at least he will be remembered as one of the all-time greats and left a lifetime's body of work to remember and study. I am sending very positive vibes his way; he'll get through this!
Thanks for that link, Possum:
"Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Ben Williams said Freeman and a female passenger were traveling eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County when his vehicle went off the edge of the road. Freeman overcorrected, flipping his 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a rest."
An 11 year old Maxima? At that age, it can't even be a rental...
Yes, The Med is for the very worst trauma. Poor Morgan.

The updates keep getting worse and worse, but thankfully, he was talking when they rescued him. That's a good sign.
I'm in Memphis... The Med (as the Regional Medical Trauma Center is known here) is the best place to go to in the city.
It is also the only place in this city to go to if you have head injuries, and it's the only Trauma center here.
In short... if you are seriously hurt, this is where you're gonna go. :( You're in deep shit if you end up at The Med.
Poor Morgan! I hope he is doing well! Is it just me or whenever they say "Unidentified female" i think that female is uber-young.. idk.. but as for that safe house, back off! I have dibs on Gary Oldman and I will cut you, your momma, your momma's momma, and all the rest of the mommmas out there! Oh, and dibs on Michael Caine too.. and Maggie Gl...NO! I mean.. Aaron .. Aaron.
I'M NOT HAPPY. I LOVE Morgan Freeman!!! Sending good thoughts and prayers!

Also, has anyone checked any recent interviews Morgan Freeman has given? Has he disparaged the golden Brangelina twins? Called them fat blobs? After my injury this morning (see that thread for the full story), I fear that this "accident" may be the work of disgruntled Brangeloonies."
LOL! I laugh at this because I'm ashamed to have been searching for People this morning. I don't even care, but yet, the woman-part of my brain told me that I had to have it. Sort of like how those tampon commercials that always seem to be aired when I have men around.... and I don't know why I put those two items together, but I did.

The AARP cutoff is 50! I would think that most of the cognitive decline that would cause or accompany impaired driving skills would come out in the late 50s, so it seems like testing everyone age 60+ would work. I think I read somewhere that the safest driving group is 35-55 year old men... that must be the age where the urge to become Jeff Gordon has left and the ennui is settling in ;)

There are classes you are asked to attend in California (or at least in my area) if you're over 55 to help improve or check your driving skills.

As a Cali driver get up there in years, my insurance company sent me a letter suggesting a senior driver program. I'm not even 55 yet!"
It's odd that you're considered a senior at the age of 55. I thought you had to be 60 and older. It's all too weird in my book.

No doubt that you truly are a "low rent whore"
While I'm not sure how this accident occurred, I will throw my 2 cents in about seniors who drive:
We found out my grandmother had Alzheimer's disease because she when she was 75, she was supposed to get her regular blood tests done at a place about 10 minutes from her house, which she was familiar with. Instead, she got lost on her way, and went missing for 36 hours. She eventually crashed her car into a ditch somewhere in Atlantic County, NJ (about 50 minutes from her home). When asked why she continued to drive all day, gas up her car, and not call home, she replied that it hadn't occurred to her. Dementia and Alzheimer's doesn't happen overnight... it's a long decline, so I shudder to think about what a danger she was on the roads for so long. We were lucky she didn't hit anybody.
We ended up having to both hide her keys and take the spark plugs out of the car, after several thwarted attempts by her to drive it again. I'm a huge proponent of seniors being re-tested on their driving skills.
With that said, I hope this wasn't the case in Mr. Freeman's accident.
My granddaddy still dives at 90. He still works, too. Of course, the entire family refuses to ride with him except for me. I just can't look him in the face and tell him I'm scared.. It's hard telling him anything, so we just kind of go with the flow...
If you live in Memphis, watch out for him. He drives a tan Buick, lol.

No, God, please not Morgan Freeman! The penguins can't move until he talks!
I'm so in your camp about old/sick folks driving, Sheeps. We have a lot of SCs around here, and they pull the craziest shit behind the wheel. Then the judges don't want to pull their licenses because, and I quote, "It's a serious thing to take a person's right to drive."
My boyfriend nearly killed two people in a mega-crash, after years of crazy bad driving related to his declining health. I asked the police officer who ticketed him for reckless driving to PLEASE stress to the judge how dangerous he was and to take his license. In court, the judge watched him struggle out of his seat and to the bench on his two prosthetic legs. Then she made the statement above and fined him $500. So I downloaded a form from DMV and sent it to one of his doctors, who attested he was a danger to the community, and eventually we got his license yanked before he killed someone.

Tis true, Okie, my mother is an insurance agent and is always regaling me with stories of people so feeble it takes them 20 minutes to park, get out of the car, walk across the sidewalk into the office 10 feet away, and pay their bill... and then they get back into their '87 Crown Vic (or Cadillac Deville) and go weaving down the road. Apparently Allstate is a big draw for the older crowd because they don't penalize you for age(?) so most of the people my mom insures are at least 50.
NOT saying this is what happened to MF, he seems very with-it for an older gentleman, but I am completely on board with driving tests for those aged 55 and up. (Honestly, I'd be on board with them for the 30-and-under crowd too, most of the drivers my age don't seem to have improved much in the 8 or so years since we got our licenses.)
berger, I'll be the blond chick with the I heart Morgan Freeman t-shirt on.

No Berger! I love that Morgan loves our city. He has a house in Southwind, I think. I almost want to go visit him, or send him flowers or some shit. I sure security must be tight, though. He's at The Med, right?

Uh, As an insurance agent, we have many people insured over the age of 70 and beyond, And damn that makes me neeeerrvous.. *shakes* They don't necessarily have more claims then younger people, but they sure can do aLOT of damage! Fucking running right thru store windows after hitting about 2 or 3 cars before hand. Such a shame! And still being able to drive after that!
