R.I.P. Estelle Getty
I knew this day was coming, but that doesn't make it any easier. Estelle Getty passed away this morning at her home in Los Angeles. She was 84. Estelle was surrounded by her family and friends when she went away. She suffered from Lewy Body Dementia for years.
I will miss her and I'm not just saying that! I mean it. If I knew how to cry, I would shed a million tears. I'll quietly eat a piece cheesecake instead. It's what Sophia would have wanted.
Rest in peace, Estelle.....

Everything is going great until one day a fast talking pepperoni salesman gallops into town. Of course, both girls are impressed. He dates one one night, the other the next night. Pretty soon, he drives a wedge between them. Before you know it, they pizza suffers, the business suffers, the friendship suffers. The girls part company and head for America, never to see one another again. Rose, one of those girls was me. The other one you probably know as Mama Celeste.
Her delivery was immaculate. She was the best!!!
You have to tip your hat to anyone who can START a career at 50! She was great! Great timing & delivery! RIP Sofia.

I love The Golden Girls! It's one of my all time favourite shows, EVER! I have 5 seasons of the show on DVD and I watch them all the time. Dorothy was always my favourite but I loved the other girls as well.
Thankyou Estelle for the many laughs and wonderful memories.

Screw those freaks - my dad and millions of others lived decent lives, took parenting seriously, served their country voluntarily during wars, worked hard, saved money, took their families to church and supported their communities, and their lives are worth less than a damned embryo? Screw that.
i was watching the news this morning and i screamed out "noooo" and i just burst out crying and i haven't been able to stop! i am just so absolutely devastated :( my friend and i spent 3 months in new york in 2006 and every night we would make sure we were home for midnight for the hour of GG on lifetime and we always have to sing the theme together at the beginning. we bought all things GG while we were there - bags, tshirts.. and when we got back to australia we bought the dvds and everytime a new one comes out we make sure we've got it straight away and we watch them over and over. we both have a copy of estelle's book - if i knew then what i know now...so what. it is the funniest read ever! she was just brilliant. i am so crushed, i looked up to her so much - it's not just the tv show or something silly, it was so much more than that!! my favourite was when they all thought she was dying and it turned out she'd just eaten too much haha oh sophia :( so sad...

God doesn't hate old people, the people who believe embryos are life and can't dare be "wasted" on research that may find ways to prevent dementia or Altzheimer's (sp?) are the ones who hate old people. Imo.

God bless her. My mom and I watched Golden Girls every week, then reruns, and laughed so very much together every time we saw it. Didn't matter if we'd seen it before. Estelle Getty was the perfect Ma.
My mom passed away in 2005. I miss her very much. Watching shows like the Golden Girls brings my mom back a little bit to me. I hope she finds Estelle on the other side somewhere. She'd love to meet her.
Dementia truly does blow. My dad had it before he died in 2003. It's heartbreaking to see a loved one go through that, and it's scary to know I'll probably have it too - along with millions of other Americans. this is a very sad day...i shed a tear today. Estelle has made me laugh very hard on several occasions. she will be sadly missed but i hope she can finally rest in peace. my thoughts go out to her family and all her friends and prior co-workers. my shout out to Estelle in heaven!! live it up now girl!

Mama Sophia no! I was just thinking about her the other and commenting to my friend we hadn't seen her in anything recently. Then I read she got dementia and was sad and now this. I know she's resting in peace where she is. :)
Golden Girls is an absolute gem of a show!
Estelle Getty was wonderful as Sophia.

Oh, man. My mom & I were just reciting Sophia's one-liners to each other over the phone. I used to take care of her when she was well enough to live at home, and we used to watch The Golden Girls twice a day together. {every day} *sighs*

I was all of 10 years old when I started watching The Golden Girls & even then I couldn't help laughing my ass off. Even tho i've seen pretty much every episode, i still watch today if i catch a re-run & laugh my ass off all over again! Sofia Petrillo was THE SHIT!

When I heard this, I shed a few tears. She always made me laugh everytime I watched the show, even though I've seen every episode a million times. She was an amazing actress and wonderful person and she will MOST DEFINITELY be missed.
