Christina Applegate's Boyfriend Found Dead
Christina Applegate's boyfriend of 2 years, Lee Grivas, was found dead in his apartment on July 1st. The National Enquirer reports that the 26-year-old died from an apparent heroin overdose. An official cause of death has not been issued, of course.
A source said that Christina is "absolutely devastated over the sudden loss." I'm sure that's an understatement.
TMZ confirms the death and claims a neighbor found him.
The two met in 2006 while Christina was doing "Sweet Charity" on Broadway and still married to Johnathon Schaech. Christina and Lee broke up several times, because of his drug problems and she "couldn't stand by and watch him ruin his life." Lee was a fisherman, photographer and skateboarder.
Damn, he was young. Sadness.

They ARE selfish. Selfishness is common in fucked-up people.
One thing that bugs me about addicts is how they think they're the only people in the world who truly suffer, and that non-addicts have escaped addiction because we're less sensitive or because our life circumstances are somehow better than theirs.

There is a level of selfishness involved with drug users, how could there not be? I disagree that addicts think they're the only ones who've truly suffered or that non-addicts are less sensitive. Drug addiction is comprised of 3 major components- genetics, environment, and experience. If your parents are addicts, and you grow up with addicts around you, that becomes your "normal". That's all you know. That is what is "normal" for you. When older, the child of addiction falls into the drug culture much more easy than people that come from non-addict families because it seems more "normal" to them. People that aren't born into it, haven't been raised around it, and aren't familiar with it, it's easier to reject it, because it's easier for them to recognize how NOT normal it is. Yes, life kicks everybody's ass in a wide variety of ways. But, a child of addicts sees their parents turn to drugs or alcohol as a way of coping, they learn that's the "normal" way of coping, rather than actual coping skills. Non-addict families teach their kids regular life lessons, and give them the tools they need to cope, so it's not part of their nature to immediately reach for that bottle, or that pipe. So in that respect, non-addicts DO have it better. They know what actual normal really is.

We lived up the street from Johnny Depp who was owner or co-owner of the Viper Room and many times he'd have the bands stay at his house and rehearse and we heard Counting Crows rehearse outside one night, I don't like them but it was kind of cool
It's rape to anyone who's not a perv and/or in a religious cult.
It just sounds so skeevy to use the phrases "lost virginity" and "four year old" in the same sentence. Losing your virginity is something you go out and do in high school or college. When you're old enough to know what virginity is and be embarrassed that you still have it.

I can understand the irritation that people feel at this, as well as the annoyance of dealing with a drug addict's lying, cheating, stealing and general untrustworthiness. I don't think drug addicts deserve to die. But they are very tiresome people to deal with.
I won't get into the state of denial some pot smokers live in where they think that just because they're not doing crack or heroin that they're not addicts. That kind of distorted reasoning is common in substance abusers, and you can't argue with people whose reasoning ability isn't fully functional.

And not everyone that ODs is an addict or a junkie. People can overdose from mixing prescription drugs, illegal drugs, alcohol, or a combination and it can be their very first time using. I have lost a few people in my life to ODs of some sort or another and it really saddens me that their death carries a stigma that they are a bad person. Good people can make mistakes and unfortunately pay the ultimate price.

I did not look at that photo, because I have seen dead bodies before, and know they look vastly different from when they were alive, regardless of what killed them. River would have lived if Flea let him jam with him during Flea's set at the Viper Room. I read in a credible biography that River was clean for a long time and then relapsed because he was sensitive as a person, and did the drugs to feel better. Then again if River was stronger he wouldn't have touched it and had lived. And this is a die-hard fan talking.

Tomorrow starts nine years of sobriety.
Any haters for a young man who died too soon due to drugs and alcohol should take a serious look around themselves. They have friends, relatives and coworkers who are in the same boat. Many are more functional than some but they are there none the less.

On the night of Phoenix's death, following a last minute refusal to perform music on stage, he was in the bathroom taking drugs with various friends and dealers. It is reported that an acquaintance offered him some Persian Brown (a powerful form of methamphetamine mixed with opiates, which is then snorted) and soon after consuming the drug he became ill. Upon leaving The Viper Room, he collapsed onto the sidewalk and began convulsing for 8 minutes. His brother Joaquin, sister Rain and actress Samantha Mathis were at the scene. Joaquin dialed 911; during the call Joaquin was unable to determine whether River was breathing. Phoenix had, in fact, already stopped breathing. Paramedics arrived on the scene and found Phoenix in asystole (flat line), when they administered drugs in an attempt to restart his heart.
