I understand other countries need money and help, but what about some of the charities that actually benefit people here in the US. It's the same with adoption to me-I know there are orphans everywhere that need adopting-but what about all the children that need homes here in the US?

bellebelle, people donating can demand their dontation amount, and who donated it, remain anonymous. It would be unethical, and in such poor taste, for a charity to violate that. Simply put, these media whores made no attempt to donate with any sort of anonimity. Because, they care more for the attention they get then where the money is going.
besides, isn't the donation from their own charity, which they already donated to? So, this isn't a donation, persay, but placing the funds after two years, into actual use?

However I just wanted to point out that often it is the manamgement of the charitable organization themselves that like to have press about a significant donation - especially if made by someone that is considered influential or famous. It brings media attention the cause, like free advertising and although it seems silly, it often helps to gain more patronage.
