Revolta reminds me of a couple I know. Teachers, ect suspect he is autistic and referred them to a Dr. who specializes is such things so that they can get a clear diagnoses, but they won't take him for some reason. The boy clearly has something going on (I've met him a bunch of times) but all the parents do is bitch about how difficult his behaviors are and it's so hard dealing with him but they won't take him to the Dr. to see what their options are to help him. It also doesn't help that they let this poor child run the neighborhood by himself (or sometimes his 7 yr old brother will accompany him) day and night...

Christine---I'm 37, and I still do. I can't go into a restroom stall, or anywhere else where i'm alone in public without my hands and body taking that opportunity to 'spaz out'--- it's like a biological function that I have to do several times per day.

I've lived alone 16 years, but whenever I'm dating someone, I've still always hidden it. Childhood ostracizing will do that to ya.

Yeah - it totally makes sense, and I've seen autistic kids grow up to be almost indetectable...seriously!

I don't work with autism but I do work with kids and it's pretty cool to see the progression in the patchy time-lapsed way that I do. It's so gradual but the improvement can be so massive too. If they stayed inside...well, I wouldn't know cuz I wouldn't have seen them!

Christine, you are right. It does depend on the autism.
I taught pre-school long ago, and had a beautiful little girl in my class whom I suspected was autistic. (She actually had never been 'diagnosed' with anything, and the mother told me the little girl's doctor told her that she was probably just delayed and to wait and see what happened. Wonder if THAT genius is still employed).
Anyway, this little girl would mumble (almost in caveman-like speech), and every now and then she would have really bad outbursts (when she was upset).
We used to have posters of cartoonish boys and girls on the wall, doing grown-up jobs like fireman, policeman, etc. Everyday when she came in for school, she would walk by those posters and not look at them. She would cup her hands around her eyes (so as not to see them, or be seen by them), and she would walk really fast and whimper until she was past them. I never quite understood why she did this, but she did.
My nephew was diagnosed with P.D.D. (pervasive developmental disorder) when he was three. He still wasn't talking at that point, but as soon as they found out, his parents started to get him as much help as they could for his speech, socialization, etc. He is sixteen now, in high school, taking advanced classes, and getting almost straight A's.
I think many of these children CAN be helped; it really comes down to how much their caregivers are willing to do. I certainly think that the more money one has, the better help they can get for the child. BUT, there is also help for people who aren't rich. They just have to find it.
I don't know how severe Jett's autism is, but I do believe that the Revolta's could have been getting him extraordinary help all of these years, and he could probably have been a functioning autistic by now, and there would be no need to hide him. If they followed what Scientology tells them, then he has no chance. And it's all the parents fault.

Yeah, I find it odd wanting to keep an autistic child removed...unless it's upsetting to him, somehow (everybody has their quirks, after all) but when I saw those pics, he didn't really look like that kinda kid. And actually, I think it would be a natural human reaction to want to stimulate a child like that. Not sure why; I just do.

Something tells me that, mostly, it's not strategic to show a lack of 'perfection' (quoted because I believe everything is perfect or else it wouldn't exist), particularly for the CO$

ONT: Harvey - is adorable. And he's pretty connected, given all his issues. Every child in history has bated their parents with swear words...depending on the situation, sometimes ignoring it is better than buying into the game;) But just the fact that he'd play the game is kinda endearing.

LOL, Andre once said that he thought his house was haunted; I think a mirror fell on Harvey while he was with the nanny.

Honestly, I think they're daft but I don't hate these people, somehow. I think they all just need to move quicker. He seems really creative and enthusiastic (what little I've seen) and, disabled or no, he's in the business of tryna crack his head open, just like every other little kid.

But I have all the social symptoms as well--can't 'read' people, detect hidden meanings. can't understand written instructions for ANYTHING...but my I.Q. is (was) 168. I'm not bragging---it's just that MANY MANY people on the autism spectrum are tremendously bright, according to the usual tests.

That being said, I will never believe that Harvey doesn't know what he's doing with that middle finger. You can tell there's intelligence in there, it just can't get out in the usual ways.

I have a pic of my Mom from the 60's-way pregnant (in a fabulous cocktail dress, btw) with a lit cig in one hand and a drink, presumably alcohol, in the other.

She had 6 "normal" kids and my Dad was an M.D.-good times.

I don't personally agree with the type of care the Revolta's have chosen for their son (ie. following Scientology protocol when it comes to treating an autistic child). But I don't think by keeping him out of the public eye, they are necessarily hiding him, either. Maybe they just don't want to expose him to stressful situations (which can easily traumatize an autistic child).
I do, however, think that sometimes Jordan and Peter whore out Harvey in a sort of 'circus side show act' kind of way. They always seem to make him do 'tricks' for the camera. Things that a child his age shouldn't be doing, but that entertain them.
Now that, to me, is sad.
Harvey is a beautiful child, and they should discipline him just like they would any other child (I'm talking about the video, not the middle finger thing. I don't think he truly knew he was doing that).
I just hope they are teaching him good values and treat him with respect, and throw in a little dignity while they are at it.

I hear you, and I'm not actually disagreeing with you, but having said that, we've had kids, including myself have bad accidents and there's nothing wrong with the parents, more like being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
my mom's terrific, but when I was three years old, I climbed the baby gate ( a new skill she was unaware of) climbed the stairs, fell down and broke my leg in the thigh..
my nephew snuck under a coffee table and bit the electrical cord...
shit sometimes really just does happen, and I know in this case, who knows?
