On a serious note, I always tell people the Golden Girls was one of the best written shows in the last 30 years. No one believes me but I stand by that statement. They also were pretty progressive for the day -- shows that accepted homosexuality, criticized harsh illegal immigration laws, did shows on AIDS and drug addiction, and not to mention, shows about 65 year old ladies having sex on a regular basis.

I totally agree with you. It was really well written, and has stood the test of time. I would go out on a limb and say it was even revolutionary in its own way. I actually wrote a paper in my college gerontology class about the Golden Girls and how progressive it was regarding sex and older people, and I acutally got an A for it, lol.

I loved Golden Girls...one of my all time favourite TV Shows. Too bad about Estelle....Sophia and Dorothy totally ruled.

No, it is not wrong. The Golden Sluts was a well written, socially relevant show with talented actors. What do we have today???? Crappy reality shows starring no-talent twats.

I liked moments in the film and a lot of people (i.e., chicks) think it's one of the most romantic movies evah. The shots in coastal South Carolina--like rowing by the geese--were lovely and they did a good job recreating the '40s. Joan Allen was killer as the mean mom.

I love these ladies!

Dementia is such a strange, sad disease. One of my mom's patients doesn't even realize when he's eaten, so all he ever does is ask for sandwiches. Estelle probably doesn't even realize how much ass she kicks. :(

"Las Chicas Doradas" I used to love this show....and sorry to hear Estelle Getty has Dementia.

I watched "The Notebook" last nite. Pretty weak chick flick but the portrayal by Gena Rowland of senile dementia was harrowing.

God, Golden Girls was a great show, but....flip flops on the red carpet, Bea? Really? Ugh. Her feet remind me of when my bf and I were out having breakfast at one of those cheap little bagel joints. An old man with flip flops and the gnarliest, most nasty feet sat down right next to us. I'm talking black toenails. I couldn't finish my breakfast. If you have nasty feet, cover them up!!
