And We're Off!
Earlier, I posted about how Clint Eastwood said Spike Lee needs too "shut his face" after Spike said he was pissed off that Clint didn't feature any African American soldiers in a couple of his war movies.
Spike has responded to ABC News! Spike said, "First of all, the man is not my father and we're not on a plantation either."
Escandalo! You better duck. Clint is going to throw his caramel squares at Spike.
He went on to say, "He's a great director. He makes his films, I make my films. The thing about it though, I didn't personally attack him. And a comment like 'a guy like that should shut his face' -- come on Clint, come on. He sounds like an angry old man right there."
Angry old man? Yup, that sounds like Clint. What's Spike's point?
"If he wishes, I could assemble African-American men who fought at Iwo Jima and I'd like him to tell these guys that what they did was insignificant and they did not exist. I'm not making this up. I know history. I'm a student of history. And I know the history of Hollywood and its omission of the one million African-American men and women who contributed to WWII. Not everything was John Wayne, baby." YES! That's the way I like, Spike. Nice and dirty.
Spike finished with, "In his vision of Iwo Jima, Negro soldiers did not exist. Simple as that. I have a different version."
Seriously, these two parrots need to stop squawking and start brawling! If they don't want to take part in an oiled up cage fight, they can do a good old-fashioned dance off! I bet you Clint can make that ass clap like we were at the opera.

No disrespect to you but you do realize that alot of people, or families, made their fortunes doing illegal shit, ie, The Kennedys who got theirs from bootlegging liquor during Prohibition. Many companies which exist today originated from times of slavery, you call that "old money" right? Find out where the Federal Reserve comes from if you don't know (Bush's grand father was a founding member). The path maybe old but it bridges the present for us all.

Who benefits from racism?. I'm sure nobody. Unless you use that for your own shady personal agenda. Racism is alive today everywhere, but there are people who use that as a green-card to excuse bullshit who didn't even happen to them or out of context.
-"Remember what you did to them? How you committed genocide against that race of people??"
Same shit Spike Lee used, the plantation comment. I'm sure everyone around here were not the ones who killed those Native Americans, so why make that comment?. It would be as dumb as if latinos make today's Spaniards pay somewhat for what their people did to the native people of America (most of the continent) back in the day when Christopher Colombus "discovered" America or what Hernan Cortes did to the native people of Mexico. Come on!.

WORD. I am aware of that, and I hate it when I see it. Yes, I hate it worse when it's applied to me, and I certainly understand where it comes from, and recognize were I on the receiving end of more of it, I would feel the same as you. I accept some "blame" (for lack of a better word) and do not deny that a lot of us are reaping bitter seeds that were sown by our forebears. We can't go back and change the past. That would be re-writing history, and negate how much as a whole, as a country, and as a people we have learned, changed, and grown. Depicting the American military of WWII era as all-inclusive with proper credit given to all those who participated would not be true, because they were not given proper credit then, and were not inclusive. That would be sweeping all the suffering minorities had to deal with then under the rug.

Barb,
I do not see uppity as a racist term, but I do see your point.
My husband, Pudge, bought me a book called "Uppity Women of Ancient Times."
Make no mistake. In the 30's Spike Lee would have definitely been characterized as "uppity," but to me an "uppity Negro" was someone who had the GALL to demand to be treated with dignity and respect.
And the white man didn't like that.
Like Virgil Tibbs in "In the Heat of the Night."
"They call me MISTER Tibbs!"
There is a magazine called Uppity Women.
"This is a place for uppity women. You know who you are. You are a woman who refuses to keep your place, to limit yourself in any way, to live down to others' expectations. You are a woman who gets up again and again, every time life knocks you down. You've learned how to survive. Now it's time to learn how to prosper."

Hi pinkdoodoo2. Well, thought I was done but my question was pertaining to the so called fairness black people have 2day that some of the others made. I asked that if that was so true then why do we black people need the voting rights act in order to vote or affirmative action that was created by the feds?
-----------------------------------
Simple, because people who don't have a twisted utopian view of society know that all men arent treated equal. The people think we are treated fairly has never had to go to schools that are gloriously under-funded or vote and not have you vote count because of the political red-tape around your community. The people who have this view that we are treated fairly tend to be white. As a matter of fact, what minority has ever agreed that we are being treated fairly? My guess is none, whether it be hispanic, asian or black.

Introducing today's developments, in which Eastwood smacked Lee down with a "shut your face," Hazlett described how the feud began:

What question? I'll answer, lol.
Please don't equate Lebowski with TwistedChris. Apples and oranges. The point Lebowski was making is that prejudice for any reason, whether a skin disease, skin color, or lack of skin, is wrong, and it hurts to be the one on the receiving end of unfounded hatred and contempt for something that is no fault of your own. Blaming people now for things that happened 2 centuries ago, and expecting people now to give anyone special priveleges based on what happened 2 centuries ago is not right either.
-----------------------------
Hmmm...I dont think most minorities want special privledges, just to be respresented fairly in a plethora of issues.
I dont blame whitey for how things are in my life at the present. I blame myself. But you have to understand that 60 years after we were granted "civil rights", there still arent equal oppotunities for minorities especially in our communities.
I did well in school. Pretty well for coming from a family that grew up in the hood that didnt understand the importance of higher education. I was a certified gifted student, but Honors classes were few and far between in my community. Yet the next city over, there were a shit-load of Advanced Placement classes. I dont think I need to specify that the neighborhood was majorally white. This is just an example of some of the issues that continue to impact us as minorities even now. We just want what's fair.
I think my generation of folks will see more positive changes insofar as equality because we know enough now to demand more for our kids. You have to understand that these inequalities started somewhere, so it's safe to say that yes it is plausible for us to still be angry at what happened two centuries ago. It's a valid argument. But we are human and like humans we have to apply a face to our plight. Even today. I'm not saying it's right, it's just something we have to get over. I am glad that there is minority of non-minority folks who arent racist. But as you can see from Barack Obama's race to the white house, there are still a poop-load of racist people out there. And those are the ones who will admit to being racist.

All I'm saying is that Hispanics are the forgotten and mis-represented people in the media and hollywood. We are more than the butt of white and black jokes. By 2012 hispanics and hispanic americans will be the majority in the country, why the hell do you think immigration and deportation has been so widespread in politics lately? The government, in fact does have a specific plan to contain or receed the population growth of hispanic people. So I think that Hollywierd needs to get up to speed.
---------------------------------------
You know what's funny? When it comes to race relations, there's someone always yelling what about me/us!? It's not just black and white. I think plenty of people already know that. Rest assured that when I say minorities are misrepresented, I mean hispanics, asians, indians, and ketchup. It sad how some minorities have to make this a separatist issue. I mean, why segregate racism? It's assinine. Get this, we are all at the bottom together. As a quote from one of my favortie movies, "WHICH WAY IS UP?".

http://publicdomainclip-art.blogspot.com/2008/05/black-troops-at-iwo-jim...
There were many Black troops at Iwo Jima and the Flags of My Fathers wasn't about iconic photos from Iwo Jima - it was about the 6 men who raised the flag in the iconic photo of soldiers raising the flag. And btw, that photo was staged.
But the film itself (as well as Letter from Iwo Jima, which was from the Japanese soldier's POV) was set at the battle of Iwo Jima. Over the 36 day battle there were 25,851 US casualties. One in three were killed or wounded. Of those, 6,825 Americans were killed.
I would imagine that of those over 6000 who died - willing to give their lives for America - at least some were Black. If they were good enough to die for America - then they are good enough to be at the very least shown as that the battle of Iwo Jima in a major Hollywood film.
And segregation in war - doesn't mean that the Blacks are over there and the Whites are over there - it means that everyone is fighting together, under different chains of command.

He really said that, but he meant it as a joke.
I laughed.

Don't call me Norman, call me Chubbsy Ubbsy.
All this is, is free publicity for Spike Lee's new movie, 'Miracle at St. Anna' ....and the media fell for it.
Lee's playing you all (and Clint) for fools.
Hah
eastwood spends zero time telling spike how to
make his movies.
eastwood spends zero time caring what spike thinks about HIS movies.
eastwood spends zero time wringing his hands over his white dude/black dude ratio.
eastwood spends zero time thinking about plantations or about whether or not he is spike's daddy (clint did get around in the old days)
tomorrow is bo diddly's funeral---the first guy who makes a movie about him is my hero
til then

You don't help anyone with comments like that, you just make it worse, and feed into sterotypes that cause people to get upset to start with. Aren't you late for a KKK meeting?

No! Those are little Bea's eyes after a night of getting hammered! No Photoshop. She's a real Picasso.
After reading this below, I am done. It truly amazes me how white women can see their own white men for the devils that they really are. Peace to you my sister.

Let me guess. You prolly laughed histerically and manically in the "Nigger Storage Scene".
Oh and talent is a matter of opinion.
You're very funny. The Kings of Comedy is just a title and doesnt imply that the three comedians featured are any better than your favorite comedians. Yes, whites can be kings too.
I think your post is an example that hate and bigotry still exists.

Yes, they are underrepresented and they have been, there is no doubt, nor denying that point. Spike should have chosen a better reference, that's true. If the story Eastwood was telling was on the entirety of the war, rather than the iconic photographs that came from it, then yeah, he should have and most likely would have had black actors in it. It wasn't. It was about the flag raising, and those who raised it.
