Bardot Convicted
73-year-old Brigitte Bardot was convicted by a Paris jury this morning of provoking discrimination and racial hatred for writing that Muslims are destroying France in a letter to Nicolas Sarkozy. She was fined around $23,000 and has to pay $1,555 in damages to a French anti-racism group.
The judge rejected the prosecution's request to have Brigitte's elderly ass thrown in jail for 2-months. This is her fifth race-related conviction in the past 11 years.
Brigitte, an animal activist, wrote the letter in December 2006, because she was pissed off over the Muslim feast of Aid el-Kebir, which is celebrated by slaughtering sheep. She wrote, "I've had enough of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts."
Her lawyer said that she will most likely not appeal because she's tired of this court shit.He said, "She has the impression that people want to silence her. She will not be silenced in her defense of animal rights."
She fucking looks spent. She needs take a load off, rest in a Calgon bath and treat herself to a bottle of Boone's Farm.

Just yesterday there was a crazy very well-dressed old lady who screamed at my doorman because a man was letting his backpack "crush" some pansies in front of our building. He refused to call the police because no crime was being committed. She was insane with rage that someone was "KILLING THE FLOWERS" and no one would call the cops. Finally she decided to call them herself. I'm pretty sure they didn't come.
We have to remember that old people are probably more frustrated than any of us, and they don't give a fuck anymore.

Um, aside from the fact that she's been convicted and fined for voicing her opinion (provoking discrimination and racial hatred, my ass), she's mostly RIGHT. If you've ever read any of the stuff she's written (and there's plenty more incendiary stuff than this), she's basically right in a lot of ways but often words things rather harshly. A lot of people in Europe agree with her, and rightfully so - many Islam people ARE emigrating to Europe then bitching that there's no fucking Sharia law. Hmmm, how 'bout you move back home then? Thanks. (And yeah, religion is a choice, so I don't know why it's so much more controversial for someone to criticize the violent practices of some Muslims but it's totally ok for religions to discriminate against each other, against women, against homos, etc. etc. Boo-hoo, life is so hard when you can't force everyone on the planet to live the way you do!)

Snarkley: About the limits thing, I think that as long as practicing your religion/voicing your opinions about others' religions doesn't cause harm to the opposing party (i.e. war, violence, cruelty), it does not overstep a boundary/cross a limit.

Just as all people should have the right to practice the religion of their choice, people should also have the right to protest and voice their disdain. The question is, what are the limits? Where are the boundaries? I don't have the answer.
