Bardot Convicted
73-year-old Brigitte Bardot was convicted by a Paris jury this morning of provoking discrimination and racial hatred for writing that Muslims are destroying France in a letter to Nicolas Sarkozy. She was fined around $23,000 and has to pay $1,555 in damages to a French anti-racism group.
The judge rejected the prosecution's request to have Brigitte's elderly ass thrown in jail for 2-months. This is her fifth race-related conviction in the past 11 years.
Brigitte, an animal activist, wrote the letter in December 2006, because she was pissed off over the Muslim feast of Aid el-Kebir, which is celebrated by slaughtering sheep. She wrote, "I've had enough of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts."
Her lawyer said that she will most likely not appeal because she's tired of this court shit.He said, "She has the impression that people want to silence her. She will not be silenced in her defense of animal rights."

I actually never said that the other issues negated this. I said that people tend to show more passion for animal rights, but turn a blind eye to human right issues. Case in point: Jimmy Bocca got pissed at the strippers post, because he felt that the women were being exploited and it wasn't funny. True, he did it with some off-color remarks but his heart was in the right place. Everyone here ripped him a new asshole. It just really bothers me how people sometimes parade their ignorance by hiding behind legitimate causes, is all. Carry on, I'm done ranting.

Look, Brigitte Bardot may be batshit crazy, racist, AND aging badly. However, I can't believe nobody has mentioned the riots of 2005. Violence, arson, and looting done by young Muslims, (YES I said it, MUSLIMS!), ravaged many towns in France that November. I don't think that if a similar thing happened here, people would be so quick to judge Miss Bardot.

I just mean to say that yes, animal rights are very important but there are people being killed in Africa daily for being from different tribes; there's a caste system that's still fully alive and well in India, and there has been a huge rise in crime based on caste differences. There are people in China who are still very much in need of aid. There are thousands of homeless people who are starving in Myanmar. So ask yourself, do you really want to make a statement that borders on religious intolerance because Muslims slaughter lambs for Eid-ul-Fitr? By the way, that tradition was actually Jewish in origin.

She wears no leather and even avoids wools and cashmeres, due to the cruelty she sees in the sheep shearing business and other animal fibered industries. She is Catholic. Well that's not very animal-friendly of her... like I said, kookoo. Look, I can understand the whole France-is-uncomfortable-because-of-riots, but the answer to that is definitely not scapegoating someone for their religious beliefs. If anything that will create more intolerence which will create hate amongst people who are muslim. Having grown up muslim, I have dealt with a lot of needless hate and bigotry that I definitely didn't deserve, especially because I was taught to respect all religions and belief systems. As I grew older, I separated myself from any religious affiliation just because I didn't want a label stuck on me by people I didn't know.
