This is a fun choice for him--although I like one of the earlier poster's suggestions that he play a broken toaster. That would really show his range.

All British people can sing one way or another, even if they have "bad" voices, and if Johnny Depp could do "Sweeney," DDL can do "Nine." I must say this casting intrigues me even more so than Javier.

I've just listened to both Antonio Banderas in the Broadway revival AND the late Raul Julia in the original Broadway production, and DDL can probably do it - Julia talk-sang through most of the songs, and while Banderas is a better singer, he was largely unintelligible. Surely Day-Lewis can do better than either of them. He is a little old for the role (52 to Bardem's 38), but he looks younger than his years when he's cleaned up. I think he'll be fine.

I hope he sings a song called "Bastard in a Basket"..
