Ben Affleck Says He’s In Awe Of Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez has been named Adweek’s 2021 Brand Visionary and she covers their latest issue. The article says that 52-year-old Jen has been building her personal brand/empire for years, long before the rise of the social media influencer Kardashian-types. Ben Affleck was interviewed for the article and he says that his girlfriend shows women of color that they can succeed, adding “I am in awe of what Jennifer’s effect on the world is.” Well, I’m in awe of Jennifer’s effect on Ben. She totally destroyed the Dunkin’-lovin’, chain-smoking, butt crack flashing, package fumbling Ben!

Here are Ben’s exact words, via Adweek:

“All I can tell you is that I have seen firsthand the difference representation makes because I have seen, over and over and over and over, women of color approach Jennifer and tell her what her example as a strong woman and a woman succeeding and demanding her fair share in the business world means to them,” notes actor/director Ben Affleck.

“I am in awe of what Jennifer’s effect on the world is. At most, as an artist, I can make movies that move people. Jennifer has inspired a massive group of people to feel they have a seat at the table in this country. That is an effect few people throughout history have had, one I will never know and one I can only stand by and admire with respect.”

Trying to think about which Ben Affleck movies have moved me… Good Will Hunting, I guess? The 2004 masterpiece Surviving Christmas?

The Adweek article goes on to discuss talks JLo’s role as a brand ambassador. She says she was partnering with companies like L’Oréal and Louis Vuitton at a time when other “real” artists weren’t doing that kind of thing. Pioneer! The interviewer asks JLo what lessons she’s learned in her career, and she replied that she’s learned how to value and capitalize on her “contributions”. She says, “it’s about being the scarce asset.” Jen explains that artists, especially females, are always told they’re disposable and they’re gonna be replaced by younger models, but she’s realized, “no… there’s only one me.”

JLo adds:

I am the scarce asset—somebody who is a proven creator, artist and entrepreneur who has an ability to really connect with people. That is my blessing, and what I feel is an incredible, incredible gift that I’ve been given from God. And I don’t take it for granted. I cherish it and try to use it in the best way that I always can.

Ya hear that, ladies? “I am the scarce asset” is the new “lean in!” Girlboss Goalz!
