Broadway Will Re-Open In September At 100% Capacity
This morning the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, announced that Broadway is back, baby! Well, it’ll be back on September 14. And at 100% capacity. Tickets can start going on sale tomorrow. According to The New York Times, big shows like Hamilton, The Lion King, and Wicked will announce their returns next week, followed by Chicago, Aladdin, Come from Away, American Utopia, and probably some other deep cuts that only theater kids and NYC richies are aware of.
Andrew Cuomo announced the Broadway news in a COVID update this morning:

NEW: Broadway shows will be ready to open September 14 at 100% capacity. Tickets go on sale starting tomorrow.
Broadway is major part of our state’s identity and economy, and we are thrilled that the curtains will rise again.

He also announced that full capacity seating for baseball games at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field would be available for fully vaccinated people. But this is DListed, and we don’t touch baseball unless it’s A-Rod cheating on JLo, so forget I said anything.
When Broadway returns theaters will still need to follow health protocols, including (via Broadway World):
“…face coverings, health screening, enhanced air filtration and ventilation, and rigorous cleaning and disinfection” and “If performances need to be postponed due to the public health conditions, theaters have planned to offer customer-friendly refunds and exchange policies.”
President of the Broadway League, Charlotte St. Martin (LOL, what a perfect Broadway League name) says Broadway will follow all the rules, and they’re “cautiously optimistic” about their return:
“We are thrilled that Governor Cuomo clearly recognizes the impact of Broadway’s return on the city and state’s economy and the complexity of restarting an entire industry that has been dormant for over a year. Nothing beats Broadway.”
So if Chicago’s coming back, does that mean the show’s last Roxie Hart, Erika Jayne of embezzlement and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fame, can pick up where she left off? Cuz it’s an actual crime that her Broadway run was cut short last March. Seriously, click play and bear witness to her stunning, raw talent:
Where is her Tony, Charlotte St. Martin?!
