Michelle Williams Says Working On Dawson’s Creek Felt Like A Factory Job
In a recent chat with Patricia Clarkson that Michelle Williams did with Variety, she compared her time on Dawson’s Creek to a factory job. Which I guess is true if factory jobs paid hit network TV money and resulted in a opportunity for unlimited fame and fortune in your chosen profession. Then sure, it’s just like a factory job.
Michelle and Patricia got together for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, and talked about their TV shows (Sharp Objects for Patricia Clarkson and Fosse/Verdon for Michelle Williams). Michelle said that she kept away from TV for a bit because while doing Dawson’s Creek, she really had no say and was just going through the motions.
MW: I must have still been doing “Dawson’s Creek” when we did “The Station Agent.” Doing “Dawson’s Creek” for six-and-a-half years, while it was an incredible learning experience — we did 22 episodes a year, and you’d be getting scripts at the last minute and you had zero input. It was a little like a
factory job.PC: It sounds formulaic.
MW: It was formulaic, yes.
PC: You couldn’t curse or be naked.
MW: Try as I might. I don’t think I’ve done television in between then and now because of a fear of loss of input. When this came around, people had been saying for a long time, “Television is different now.” And I could see that that was true and that it was something that I should open myself up to.
This is just a guess, but I don’t think Michelle has ever worked an actual factory job or even seen the inside of a factory. Or if she has it was that episode of Mr. Rogers when they went to the Crayon Factory. Which doesn’t count. Also, Michelle was a teenager when started Dawson’s Creek and she’s upset about her lack of input?! I would be thanking my lucky stars no one listened to my input at that age. I can’t imagine the shit I would suggest. It would something like,”Grams catches them all sneaking pot which somehow leads to a orgy that mostly focuses on Pacy’s hot body and brooding personality. Oh and Ghetto Superstar is playing the whole time.” Actually, I really should have been a writer on that show.
Michelle he said in the past, though, that she would be into doing a Dawson’s Creek reunion.
There are two very strong reasons for her to do a reunion despite her artistic concerns: One, hot ghost sex with Pacey Witter. And two, seeing Dawson’s ugly cry again.
