Amy Heckerling’s Daughter Defends Her Mom Against Chris Kattan’s Accusations

In his new memoir, Baby Don’t Hurt Me  Chris Kattan discussed how he felt coerced to have a casting couch moment with director Amy Heckerling at the urging of Lorne Michaels. Saturday Night Live has responded by saying simply saying it didn’t happen. Amy has yet to respond.  However, Amy’s daughter Mollie Heckerling, didn’t like the comparison between her mom and Harvey Weinstein and took to twitter to defend her mom. And it’s a lot. We learned that Amy dumped Balki from Perfect Strangers to get with Chris and Chris later cheated on her with Amber from Clueless. It’s a 90s clusterfuck.

Mollie, who may shouldn’t have tweeted this, tweeted this:

In case you can’t read that:

My mother was engaged to Bronson Pinchot before they started making A Night at the Roxbury. I saw no evidence of her seeing, or even talking to Chris Kattan during pre-production; rather, she was working vigorously with Steve Koren every day to help improve the script. My mother has never in her life threatened or tried to sabotage anything she was working on. Why would she do that? During the actual shoot, she and Chris became close and he would call our house EVERY NIGHT to talk to her for hours about how he felt like he wasn’t getting the best sketches on SNL. She and Chris started having an affair but, as far as I know, it wasn’t until shooting was well under way.

Was it inappropriate considering the power dynamic? YES. But was it consensual and fully his choice to get with her? Also, YES. My mother broke off her engagement with Bronson and started dating Chris. Chris told her that when he informed Lorne Michaels that they were seeing each other, Lorne said, “What do you want to date her for? She’s so old.” My mom spiraled into a massive eating disorder while dating Chris because she was insecure about their age difference and then Chris went and cheated on her with Elisa Donovan who played Amber on Clueless and also had a role on A Night at Roxbury. I feel for Chris’ other struggles and certainly do not want to delegitimize the importance of the #MeToo movement, but what Chris is saying sounds libelous. I would be VERY interested to hear what Lorne Michaels has to say about all this.

There is so much unpack here. First, Mollie Heckerling is the love child between Harold Ramis (yes that Harold Ramis) and Amy Heckerling. Mollie was conceived when they were both technically married to other people. Chris Kattan had an affair with Amy when he was dating Jennifer Coolidge and then cheated on Amy with Amber from Clueless. Um….WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?! So much scandal that I had no idea about! Also, it looks like either Lorne Michaels pushed Chris Kattan to have sex with Amy Heckerling or threw judgmental eyes at him for dating an old lady. Either way, Lorne Michaels comes off looking like a sweaty dick.

Mollie went onto clarify her statements to Vulture, because she didn’t want this mess of story to make her seem insensitive to the #Metoo movement.

In a statement to Vulture, Mollie clarified her tweets, writing, “This is all kind of a mess and I feel bad for multiple reasons about it — especially since I am a die hard supporter of MeToo and definitely don’t want to seem insensitive to so many people’s accounts of sexual misconduct.” She added that her mother is an “extraordinarily private person” and that “she didn’t want to comment on this because she felt as though her responding would further fuel the story.” She also hoped that all of the involved parties would speak up: “I really wish Lorne Michaels would step forward.”

Umm…yeah Lorne Michaels is probably not stepping forward anytime soon, so it may be up to Amy to try to clear her own name. Meanwhile, I’m sitting here glad that Jennifer Coolidge got out of that mess, and also wondering if she hooked up with Balki after Chris cheated on her. That would really complete the circle of 90s messiness.
