Alex Trebek’s Pancreatic Cancer Is Near Remission!

Oh, Alex Trebek, the world’s most beloved, surly, old, know-it-all uncle has blessed us with some good news as it turns out stage four pancreatic cancer isn’t a match for the bitchy greatness of our favorite Canadian! Alex Trebek is on the cover of People to tell us that according to his doctors, he is “near remission” and that he will continue to berate contestants who give the wrong answer for years to come.

According to People:

“It’s kind of mind-boggling,” the 78-year-old says, in PEOPLE’s new cover story. Although the cancer has a 9 percent survival rate, Trebek has been responding very well to chemotherapy. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory…some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”

All feels right in the world again. Alex went on to say that he is grateful for the well wishes and positive vibes and believes it may have played a role in his recovery.

“I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers,” he says. “I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this.”

He adds, “I’ve got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayer, and I will never ever minimize the value of that.”

I’m not proud (and I will deny it forever) but I got a little misty reading this. The idea of Alex Trebek saying he believes in the power of love and prayer to help him beat cancer might be the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s like watching your stoic dad cry at the movie Up.

So here’s hoping Alex has a speedy and full recovery. As there is nothing better (and no one could replace) the subtle shade of Alex Trebek’s face when he’s not impressed with someone. He looks like he just sniffed a fart and he knows you did it, but he’s too much of gentleman to directly call you out on it. Truly, Trebek shade is the best shade! It’s an art form like no other.

And if he fights as hard as he does a looting call girl, then cancer has a hell of fight in front of it.
