Lisa Kudrow Says That Being On “Friends” Gave Her Body Image Issues 

Phoebe may be the best character on Friends, but compared to her co-stars, Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, international treasure Lisa Kudrow was the least tabloid “famous”. We don’t read about her alleged botched plastic surgeries, or all of her failed relationships and loneliness the way we do with Court and Jen. And the same was true in the 90s: Jen was dating Brad Pitt, Courteney was in those Scream movies. And now, twenty years later when one normally assesses all the ways their previous traumas have shaped who they are, Lisa is talking about how back then being around her co-stars made her feel like the fat girl.

Lisa Kudrow told Marc Maron on his WTF podcast that she used to feel like shit when she had to stand next to Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston. She revealed that during the show’s 10-year run, she would constantly compare herself to her co-stars:

“You see yourself on TV and it’s that ‘Oh my God, I’m just a mountain of a girl’. I’m already bigger than Courtney and Jennifer, like, my bones feel bigger… I just felt like this mountain of a woman next to them.”

Well then she must have really loved when they made Courteney put on that fat suit.

Lisa also said that she would do the Hollywood-starlet thing and made some unhealthy choices to keep herself thin, which only led to people telling her she looked “great” even though she was physically ill:

“Unfortunately for a woman, if you’re underweight, you look good and that’s all I ever got… When I was too thin I was sick all the time, a cold, sinus infection, I was always sick.”

Now as a full-grown woman Lisa says she still deals with body issues but she’s gotten a lot better:

“I have a whole battle all the time… I end up with, ‘So what? So, all right. You’re older. That’s a good thing. Why is that a bad thing?'”

Yeah I mean listen, if you wanted, Lisa, you could just buy yourself a hot body because you are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo rich you can afford the best cosmetic doctors, but like I wouldn’t even suggest it. Look at what happened to Cardi B! I don’t see Lisa Kudrow twerking out her stitches while performing at Rolling Loud, but still…
