The Teaser Trailer For “Judy” Starring Renee Zellweger Is Here

Last year, we got our first look at Renee Zellweger with Teddy Ruxpin contacts in her eyes to play Judy Garland in a new biopic. The teaser trailer is finally here.

According to Vulture

Zellweger is giving a very exact impersonation of Judy Garland, down to a purposefully shaky performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” in the upcoming movie/excuse to feel many gay emotions in a theater, Judy. The film is based on Peter Quilter’s play End of the Rainbow, adapted for the screen by Lovesick and the Crown’s Tom Edge, and directed by Rupert Goold, best known for stage work like American Psycho, King Charles the third, and Ink. The movie takes place in 1968 as Judy arrives in London for her sold-out run at the nightclub Talk of the Town. Along the way, you get all those key music biopic beats, including romance, addiction, battles with management, and dramatically lit close-ups of Judy holding a microphone.

It seems like everyone is excited about the film except for Ms. Liza Minelli, who as you probably know, reportedly said this about the biopic last year:

“I have never met nor spoken to Renee Zellweger. I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way. Any reports to the contrary are 100% Fiction.”

Yikes. Liza has since deleted the post but the internet doesn’t forget and she is clearly not a fan of either not being apart of the movie or the movie itself. And it doesn’t seem like her and Renee will be exchanging BFF necklaces soon either.

I went to a Judy Garland drag show, and was expecting a fun, campy experience, and it was instead a sad, beautiful tribute to her. Judy fans are hardcore, so if Renee doesn’t bring it, Liza Minnelli won’t be the only one tackling her ass after the premiere.

Here’s Renee singing Judy and sounding like Renee with a sore throat.
