R. Kelly Lost A Civil Lawsuit By Not Showing Up To Court

R. Kelly is the type of dude who just has so many sexual assault allegations against him that he literally can’t keep them straight and actually will just not show up to a court hearing about one. At least, that’s what happened in Chicago when he decided that he would not answer to allegations that he sexually abused an underage girl in the late 1990s. I mean, hey, it happens! There’s just so darn many.

The Chicago Tribune says that R. Kelly has lost a court battle because he just failed to show up. He was supposed to be at Cook County Circuit Court to answer to the civil lawsuit from a woman who claims he statutory raped her in the late-90s when she was 16. The accuser, is known as H.W. and she is one of the four victims in the felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse case against Kelly.

Prosecutors allege that in the 90s, girl spoke with R. Kelly briefly as he drove past her. Later that day, Kelly’s manager allegedly approached H.W. as she was celebrating her 16th birthday party, or as R. Kelly probably puts it: “almost too old”. The manager gave the girl his card to contact him saying R. Kelly wanted to meet her at the studio, but her mother was there to stop that bullshit and took it from her. The girl later went into the mom’s purse, took it out and contacted R. Kelly. H.W. then allegedly began having sexual encounters with him about once a month. H.W. says she was “star struck” and believed she was going to get a role in a music video.

The lawsuit alleges that R. Kelly instead had sex with her and “represented to (H.W.) that this behavior was appropriate.” Now 36, H.W. has done therapy and realized that her: “great shame, guilt, self-blame, confusion, depression” and other emotional distress are results of Kelly’s sexual abuse:

“Prior to that time, (H.W.) was unable to link in her mind the acts of childhood sexual abuse by the defendant to her fragile emotional and mental state and her problems stemming from that abuse.”

Since R. Kelly didn’t show up, Judge Moira Johnson ruled against him. It’s not like he didn’t know the hearing was happening. He got the court summons and records show he got it while in jail cause he couldn’t afford bail, so there was no reason not to be there.

Judge Moira granted H.W.’s  attorneys’ request to enter a judgment against Kelly. This can still be reversed if R. Kelly realizes what’s happening and gets an attorney involved, but if not, he could be ordered to pay damages as soon as next month. Also happening next month: H.W. is expected to testify about her allegations against the singer, probably with the same Judge Moira Johnson.

R. Kelly is a whole mess. He’s too busy screaming at Gayle King to go to court, I guess. Or maybe he just literally can’t afford anymore representation? Either way, congrats to H.W. on getting hers. Unfortunately… if he can’t pay for lawyers… I have some bad news about the damages he’ll be ordered to pay you… But maybe you can sell all his stuff and get some of that? I’m sure those chains will pawn for something.
