Ian McKellen Thinks Kevin Spacey And Bryan Singer Were Abusive Creeps Because They Were Closeted

I guess running lines with Taylor Swift on the Cats set is getting to Ian McKellen because he gave an interview recently where he was asked about #MeToo and the likes of Kevin Spacey and Bryan Singer. Ian has already waded into the #MeToo soundbite waters juuuuust enough to make his publicist want to toss back a giant martini. Wellp, he did it again by blaming Kevin and Bryan’s horrible behavior on being closeted.

Variety mentions how Ian – who also has admonished Kevin’s behavior in the past – was on a live recording of the #QueerAF during National Student Pride when he brought up a theory as to why Bryan and Kev were pretty awful:

“Both of them were in the closet. Hence all their problems as people and their relationships with other people. If they had been able to be open about themselves and their desires, they wouldn’t have started abusing people in the way they’re being accused.”

Now, I’ve known plenty of closeted people, myself back in the day included, who only lashed out by wearing heinous puka shell necklaces from Abercrombie, but I guess Ian has never heard of channeling your closeted energy into healthy things like fugly fashion! Ian seemed to jokingly invite possible accusers to come after him, because his 79-year-old may have forgotten.

“Frankly, I”m waiting for someone to accuse me of something. And me wondering if they’re not telling the truth and me having forgotten.”

File that under: YI and KES!

Ian has worked with both Bryan in the X-Men franchise and Kevin at the Old Vic Theatre in London, where there are 20 accounts of alleged sexual misconduct on behalf of Kev. Ian still thinks it’s up to the public as to whether predators like Bryan and Kevin should be allowed to work again:

“Do you want to see someone who’s been accused of something that you don’t approve of? Do you ever want to see them again? If the answer is no, you won’t buy a ticket, you won’t turn on the television. But there may be others for whom that’s not a consideration.”

Gandalf, Kevin’s last movie brought in less on opening day that what a one-way Spirit flight to Myrtle Beach costs…I don’t think anyone is considering him again!
