Trolls Are Trying To Sink “Captain Marvel” Before It Even Premieres

Some angry straight men terrified of losing their power base have apparently banded together to mount a movement to ruin a movie prior to its release. Captain Marvel, starring Oscar shade-throwing expert Brie Larson, drops on March 8, and Brie’s recent requests for a more inclusive panel of film critics to review her movie have been met with terrified hatred by the usual suspects. Hence, as the Huffington Post reports, the assholes trying to flood the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes page with negative comments calling Brie a man-hating racist trying to stuff her feminist agenda up their angry asses.

There’s a lot riding on Captain Marvel seeing as its the first Marvel Cinematic Universe flick featuring a female superhero runnin’ things. The hopes are it will do the sort of business that giganto hit Black Panther (the first Marvel Cinematic Universe flick featuring a superhero of color runnin’ things) did and lead to more lady hero movies. Naturally, this sort of thing doesn’t sit well with a certain segment of the population who prefer their Spider-Mans white and their ladies in the kitchen fixing them sandwiches. It especially doesn’t sit well with them when the film’s star has the temerity to request things like:

Pointing out the disparity between the number of white male movie reviewers and the number of women reviewers and reviewers of color, Larson said, “I do not need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work for him about ‘A Wrinkle in Time.’ It wasn’t made for him. I want to know what that film meant to women of color, to biracial women, to teen women of color, to teens that are biracial. And for the third time, I don’t hate white dudes. These are just facts. These are not my feelings.”

Brie said that during an acceptance speech at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards last year. Naturally, that sort of speech leads to this sort of speech:

But the latest comments for “Captain Marvel” seem to follow a disturbing theme: One person said they couldn’t be paid to see the “SJW laden, white male hating worthless POS movie.” Others claimed, without much context, that Larson had “sexist and racist attitudes.”

And this sort of speech:

Note the “not interested” in the corner of some of them? That means that the person has already downvoted the movie, which lowers its scoring, which can effect a movie’s box office take and how many theaters it gets put in.

Rotten Tomatoes has scrubbed the above and is reportedly keeping a close eye on hate speech in their comments. They went through a similar deal when assclowns tried to do the same thing to Black Panther before its release because we just can’t have nice things in this country. Here’s what the site had to say about that last year.

We at Rotten Tomatoes are proud to have become a platform for passionate fans to debate and discuss entertainment and we take that responsibility seriously. While we respect our fans’ diverse opinions, we do not condone hate speech. Our team of security, network and social experts continue to closely monitor our platforms and any users who engage in such activities will be blocked from our site and their comments removed as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, these efforts might be having an effect because the movie only has a 38% “want to see” rating right now. Let’s just hope various dickheads aren’t able to eventually turn “Higher! Further! Faster!” into “Lower! Full Stop! Slow Down And Let Me Look At That Fine Ass, Honey…”
