Kendrick Lamar And SZA Will Not Be Performing At The Oscars

Well, it’s official (in my Julie Chen-Moonves voice). The Oscars gave the people another reason to watch reruns of America’s Funniest Home Videos instead. I was looking forward to the moment during that stuffy evening of stiff faces when Kendrick Lamar and SZA interrupted the energy while performing the Oscar nominated song “All The Stars” from the also nominated film Black Panther. However, since that’s no longer happening, some might choose to do something more fun like prepare their taxes.

It was already reported that the Oscars were only going to feature two nominated Best Original Song performances during the show, “All The Stars” being one and “Shallow” from A Star Is Born being the other. After the Academy realized that was a dumb decision, they announced that all the songs will be performed. But now, according to Variety, Kendrick and Sza are no longer performing probably because they’ve both been texting each other this whole time like cousins before a family dinner saying “I’m not going if you’re not going“.

Despite the Academy’s efforts to secure Kendrick Lamar and SZA for a performance of the Oscar-nominated song “All the Stars” from “Black Panther” on the upcoming Oscars telecast, the duo will not be a part of the show, Variety has learned. The reason, according to a source close to the situation, is logistics and timing.

Logistics and timing sounds a lot better than “We don’t condone your wack ass broadcast” because you will recall that Kendrick also skipped the Grammys as well. Perhaps he’s just too busy to be bothered with the Oscars this year or maybe he’d rather sit at home with popcorn to watch this mess crash and burn like the rest of us.

The way things have been going for this year’s Oscars, I’m fully expecting the Academy to surprise everyone by bringing J. Lo out to perform “All The Stars” and murder everyone’s dreams just like she did with that horrific Notown tribute at the Grammys ( And yes, I’m still pissed about that).
